When flushing, close all your browser windows first and make sure you don't have a hung browser process. By "hung" I mean you can close the browser, but some error causes the browser program to still run in memory. Thus many types of "flushes" don't work due to windows security locking the caches against wholesale clearing.u mean i must change my ISP to solve this problem????
A temporary workaround for patch problems is to use a download manager to download all of the relevant dated patch files from the ftp site to the ragnarok folder. The RO patcher will use patch files in the folder if they are there and thus you avoid the problem of your patcher not being able to make a reliable constant connection to gravity's patch server.
Patching this way is infamously done by dialup users because someone with dialup might be unable to complete a long patch without a connection delay causing the patch to abort the longer 8MB size patch files.

If your ISP is indeed blocking FTP connections and refuses to stop doing so, then, yes, you'll probably have to change your ISP. However, it is pointless to consider doing this before you have even identified the cause of the problem you're experiencing.
I'm afraid that you're making it extremely difficult for anyone to help you by ignoring the questions that you're being asked (both in this thread and the one you created). Please answer the following questions to assist me in diagnosing the cause of the problem:
- Did you try temporarily disabling your firewall as I suggested? If so, what was the result?
- Is the problem intermittent — are you ever able to successfully update your client?
- If you have another computer that uses the same Internet connection as the computer on which you play RO on, then please test whether you can access ftp://patch1.playragnarok.com/ on the other computer.
- Can you access ftp://kernel.org/ on the computer on which you play RO?

Hello, can somebody please give me a hand?
I am trying to install the patch server and ro in my pc, but i'm having some problems.
The funny thing is that, i successfully installed in my laptop.
My pc has windows 7, and my laptop has windows 7 starter, i configured my router to use Google DNS already (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and i still get the same "failed to connect the server".
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Ps: My pc is connected by cable to the router, and the laptop is by wireless.

Please test whether you can access the update server using both Internet Explorer and a different web browser (or FTP client). (The updater/patch client uses Internet Explorer to download updates.)

Hi guys, I get the failed to connect patch server on my desktop but not on my laptop also the ftp page for the manual patch won't open, it starts loading but it does it indefinitely, I tried it on chrome and IE. Even thought I don't think it is a dns problem I tried a dns flush and using the google dns and that did not work. I'm not even sure if this is the right place to post this but don't know what else I can do. I run win xp, I recreated RO firewall settings. I'll post my tracert if that helps, hope you can help me.

Sure. It's quite easy to do: open Internet Explorer, enter "ftp://patch1.playragnarok.com/" in the address field, and then press return. If you see a list of folders, then the test was successful. If anything else happens, then the test failed.
Once you have completed the test with Internet Explorer, then perform it again with another web browser such as Chrome or Firefox.

Try the following in order:
- Reset your Internet Explorer configuration.
Note: I strongly recommend that you create a backup of your Internet Explorer configuration before trying this. If you are unable to access the Internet or Web after resetting your configuration, then restore the backup that you created. - Scan for and remove any malware from your computer using anti-malware software such as Bitdefender QuickScan, Trend Micro HouseCall, or Malwarebytes Anti-malware.
- Upgrade to a newer version of Internet Explorer.

Thanks for your quick reply.
Before I did that I tried using a lan connection instead of a wireless one and it patched, now I'm wireless again and I can play again. I'll run all the anti-malware scans but should I still reset IE? Thanks again.

Really? I wouldn't have expected that to make any difference.
Are you still unable to access the update server after switching back to your wireless connection? If so, then, yes, you should try resetting IE's configuration. If that doesn't resolve the problem, then perhaps there is some Internet security software installed on your computer that is imposing restrictions on your wireless connection but not your wired connection.

Hello everyone -
If you have already checked that your DNS is not causing the issue (using Google's DNS is a good idea either way) I have found another culprit that causes the same error to appear. For Ragnarok to patch properly you must disable any download tool addons inside Internet Explorer. These will hijack Ragnarok's patching system and cause it to fail out (In my case this was caused by Free Download Manager).

I've always suspected that this was this case. Thanks for reporting it.
To anyone who is experiencing the "failed to connect [to] patch server" problem:
This thread was created during a period when there was a problem with the DNS records of playragnarok.com (specifically, its DNSSEC records) that prevented users of certain ISPs from resolving the address of the update/patch server and thereby connecting to it. As this problem has now been resolved, changing your DNS server probably won't help you. You should instead try the following potential solutions in order:
- In Internet Explorer, navigate to ftp://patch1.playragnarok.com/patch/ and then download any file in the folder (you can discard the file after downloading it). If you're unable to navigate to the site, then skip to the next step.
- Configure any and all installed installed download managers to not integrate with Internet Explorer (as per Ghen's suggestion).
- Clear your DNS resolver cache:
- Press Windows-R (the Windows key and the R key).
- Type "cmd" and press enter.
- Enter "ipconfig /flushdns".
- Test whether you can update your IRO client while your firewall is temporarily disabled. If you can, then revise your firewall configuration accordingly.
- Reset your Internet Explorer configuration.
Note: I strongly recommend that you create a backup of your Internet Explorer configuration before trying this. If you are unable to access the Internet or Web after resetting your configuration, then restore the backup that you created. - Scan for and remove any malware from your computer using anti-malware software such as Malwarebytes Anti-malware.
- Upgrade to a newer version of Internet Explorer (if possible).
