Genuinely curious if it's worth it to make a new character on classic. I wanted to make an expanded character (Gunslinger, Ninja, or Super Novice) was wondering if people played anymore. Like is it just soloing the entire way?

But if you're looking for party play, unlikely.

You could probably party the people who have not made charas to leech themselves at dragons. Or maybe you could join a guild and level at dragons with them.

Outside of leveling, battlegrounds are kinda active , but there isn't much content for parties yet, like ET, turn ins, or sealed shrine, or more maps, or WoE2, etc. (and there will not be any before several months, according to Oda).

None of those classes are party friendly or desirable enough to party.

Classic has become kind of cutthroat in that regard, since ya know... everyone 99ed off a stupid of as hell event!

I have a super novice I play from time to time. Basic gears only on it =*( but I am planning on making another one soon for fun in woe/bg/pvp (if its ever active).

Go for it, although getting angelic protection from venders might be tough for a bit. Also tougher to find a vender for accessory cards if you like quve+lude, best chance is asking people that open lots of OCA's.

Edit: You can 1 shot (solo) grooves now that the map is out. Wont be able to 1 shot goats (solo) for a while due to ice dung. This is for magic, never made a melee sn.

One thing to note though is that all Expanded classes (with the exception of Super Novice), would immediately require a Magic Stone to job change either before or after you've done the respective job change quests.

Ninja can be useful for Watery Evasion / that other skill that I can't remember the name of.

No one really parties / "plays" Classic outside of WoE right now. As has been said, Endless and stuff aren't in and there was the dumb Dragon event that insta-99ed everyone.

no reason for a free account player to ever play classic. magic stones are basically a brickwall in your gameplay. also 1000 people logged in, 900 are probably bots lol

That's overstating just a bit. I'd guesstimate about 300 are bots, 150-200 are merchants and the rest are either people actually playing or people that are AFKing.

It's quite nice actually. I came back to the game few months ago and I have more friends here than I used to have in WoW., (that's mainly why I left it anyway).
But of course, In my case I was expected to level alone, and that's what I do.
