I want to play as a caster class and my girlfriend would also like to be a caster class. We would prefer not to be the same class and we'd prefer not to have to melee at all but if I have to then I will take the one with some melee. So are there 2 casters that are powerful that do not require any melee at all if not what are the strongest caster and melee/casters

Shamy to Mystic = good heals, & AOE fast lvl/grind/support.

then
Templar to tempest = AOEs, a single target heal and sleep to imobialsie mobs.
or
SoulHunter- defiler = once in mid 60's+ some nice aoes and ground based imboliser (Terms of Service/Trap of stifness)

personaly if new i would go mystic/tempest as are cheaper to gear and safer/easier to play. you also get hels and sleep.

mystic will also go well in pvp and with practise so will templar.

awesome thank you guys for the swift replies and all the ones you have stated are full caster and no melee? I'm a hardcore gamer and my gf is not so much so if you could recommend which class for who if not thank you anyway guys you have been very helpful I was currently leveling a shaman and I believe I did pick mystic my gf hasnt started yet. Is there a big difference in endgame dps or are they all pretty equal

As AngelicPretty said, id recommend the Shaman -> Myst and Templar -> Tempest combo too.
Both can do well pve and pvp and are good classes to start off with.
The endgame dps depends much on ur equipment, theres no big difference with that. Choose the shaman for urself, with some Healing- and Defensetotems u can solo grind/lvl pretty well. Templar as duo partner is a good decision cuz it can help u out with an additional defensebuff (Divine Protection) , a heal and a *sleep* for stopping ur enemies. In that char combo u can take out the lower bossmonsters as well.
Leave ur IGN if u want so i can maybe talk to u ingame and help with some skills or starter equipment.

One play mystic, the other forsaker, and things should go well, their skills go well together.

the best class combo in game is item mall. the one who spends the most is the champion. if you don't plan on spending a penny best to uninstall now and find a new game.

The best high...high pvp duo casters would be elem/forsaker.
though forsaker hast delay on casting his skills elem has enough stuns to able the saker to pull his combo followed up by elem debuff and weap enchants u would have depleted the enemy of 65% of their fire resistance and 20% all other elements for the elem to finish the nuke.
