Completely solo?

Firewall, Safety Wall, Quagmire, Storm Gust, Frost Nova.

Vertical FWs still work well, SW is still pretty decent for tanking, quag will let you kite much better, SG because SG, but FN is now the standard easy-cast freezing skill.

Seconding frost nova, it's the most powerful spell in wl/wiz's repertoire. Put up quag, safety wall yourself, then spam frost nova till everything freezes, then amp -> crimson rock and that's it.

FN freezes for a base of 30 sec, while SG only freezes for 5 sec or so.

any wiz that doesnt get frost nova is a complete noobtard, and youd be surprised at how many dont get it.

for soloing i usually sg lvl 1 then LOV lvl 10 or jupitel thunder or napalm vulcan. ive never even touched any other spell my entire time leveling other then fireball when i was a mage

if you do TIs then youll need LOV lvl 10. pretty much only 2 spells youll use to lvl 99 are SG1 and LOV 10 and occasionally frost nova to get mobs off you or speed freeze and LOV if youre gear is good

youre just a wiz right? not high wiz? i wouldnt worry too much about any other spells until after you rebirth

for a wiz to be as efficient with their skill distribution to help alot during TI, SG10 n LOV10 is a must. Mostly Low TI monster are not that resistant to wind atk, and also fire. But, the SG LOV combo is the best a plain wiz can get. Complement it with FN10.

TI tips:
When your party do the tanking, stay away a bit (from the mobs of coz), pull SG5/7/10 (depends on how much u can tolerate with the cast speed, I hotkeyed SG1, 5, 7, n 10 in 1 row).

When you always got mobbed real fast, SG1 > LOV10 (LoV10 has a bit shorter cast time than SG10 I guess)

When you in danger of getting mobbed, FN10 to freeze them up follow up with LOV or JT.

Ahh remember, if the LOV cant one shot kill them, prepare to die since the mob will def aggro towards u during the LOV animation. To survive, get your ti member to kill them during the animation, so that the mob switched to them instead.

I hate that so much.its why i respecced and got rid of LOV (cept the 1 point for warlock prereq). Got tired of terribad priests not healing me at all and losing all of my exp during TI runs. Haha i had one party yelling at me to do something besides freeze mobs. Told them 'sawwy'.

tell them, i already did my part. now its your turn to hit or kill during the 6sec SG animation, or else you guys are being very terri terri bad to not kill anything during that golden opportunity to kill anything safely. also, if they did still demand you to do *anything else* moar, tell them to finish off any mob that i FN'd so that i can keep spamming it while u guys kill it. no offense, but if the party demands a wiz/hwiz/wl support, then support ours too. We already strategised the whole party killing method, let alone tanking method (SW spamming, WI infront of mob when theres no tank), so other class need to do their part too instead of just *Greeding* or using normal RC or just CC a few inside the aoe that we gonna nuke instead of other mob surrounding the party. Im not saying that our class is demanding in party, but pls understand that we hold the responsibility to SUPPORT n do the KILLING too. our APM might go nuts even during normal ti party. just 2cents from me though, no offense.

That's why safety walling before using LoV is always a good idea.

whoa, i wrote a wall of text again..QQ
oh yeah, SW before LoV is a great idea. Just make sure u keep spamming it up or alternate with FN when you can cast again. I believe SW can take bout 11 melee hits before it breaks, but I guess it always break quickly nonetheless, since that mobs sure are aggroing on u.
Oh, if u have hide clip, hmm that might be a good idea too. SW + or FN + or Hide-> barely unscathed

^ whew..no wall of text anymore

Definitely, as Rirezz said, its a good kiting skill. You mob them around, quag, n SG1 to freeze them up.
Or, quag, and VFW.
During pre renewal, this was essential skill to most of players, but now, since the introduction of TI, most of players already forgotten that skill, since all we care are finishing the counts fast.

I have some questions;
What is TI?;
What better skill to up solo, MS, LoV, FN or SG?

MS LOV and SG suck at level 10 for solo play. Use fast cast spells like quag, frost nova, firewall/fireball, soulstrike/napalm vulcan, and safety wall.
SG 1 is ok for freezing, but Frost Nova is best in solo since it won't push everything around and they stay frozen longer.

Firewall and Safety wall have their uses in different situations with solo PvM, I personally would say Firewall and Safety Wall are equal and it really depends on personal preference and play style, I prefer Firewall over Safety Wall in solo PvM but in a party situation I would rather have Safety Wall. As for Icewall other than quite rare occasions I don't use icewall so I wouldn't choose it other them in which is "better".

On a side note, you should actually took them all and experience them one by one. By having a directed guidance in selecting skills, sometimes it can limited our creativity in playing the class. Player who plays Mage class are blessed with real intelligence and skill. Each of them hone their skills from what they experienced throughout all the time they spent playing the class. By far, I still don't see any Mage bots running around pvm maps (Pardon me if they are actually exist - but I think not). As you can see, some of us prefer this skill over those skill because they have ways to use them, and they have the skills to make it as a successful spells to level up. For me, I don't prefer Soul Strike and Napalm Beat, as I already know where to level without using them, while others make full use of it and even out damage (DPS based) those other elements that I used to level my mage.

If you screw up, remember, you can always recreate. Don't bother with Mesmerist if you already have half wizard already, instead, just use the skill points for other spells.

If I remember correctly, this was our way to level and mastering this class since its beta days. Go living out your aspiration as one of the Mages kin, son. Mage class will always be, the most exciting (and most complex) class to master it properly, imho.
