i have an alchemist with the stats:
str 55
agi 65
vit 1
int 1
dex 20
luk 1
i made this years ago so i'm not sure what i was thinking.
but i figure i'll stick with the agi/str thing for now. i just need help on my skills. which should i prioritize?

Doesn't really matter.
Alchemist on renewal isn't going to do PVP/MVP until after transcending, and there aren't 49 skill points worth of PVM skills for alchy
Pot Research 10, Aid Pot 5, Flora 5, Homun Skills (7 points) - and after prereqs that leaves you with 16 points left. If you're using an axe, you can get axe mastery, and then... I guess acid terror?
It doesn't matter much as alchy - coating skills aren't used in PVM since nothing other than bosses and a few high level monsters you won't be fighting break/divest, marine spheres are useless and bomb does crap damage.
Once you trans, it's a whole different ballgame - skill choices become very important.
