I personally chose Chef for mine, as BMs possess self heals that you can use often enough to save on HP pots.

I chose Chef because bear devours carcass.

Blacksmith bears/tigers are interesting, because they pick on the rocks with their paws IIRC.

Seems to me that Beast Masters mostly go Chef. I actually went Chef as well, but because I enjoy cooking in real life. (:

I went blacksmith for the end game weapon craftings.

Honestly it doesn't really matter since you kinda benefit from all the professions. Alchemist/Chef = food and potion buffs, while Blacksmith/Artisan = crafting some decent end game gear.

Artisans and Blacksmiths are probably more profitable late game since runes, socket punchers, and epic weapons and armors are always going to be in high demand.

I chose chef, as it reflects my real life characteristics.

For the most benefit, pick Artisan for this class, as you will eventually want/need the armors. You could also go Blacksmith for the Spears, but you'll then have to either buy the armor pieces or get them as drops, which can be very pricey/rare depending on the grade of equipment. Alchemist and Chef are both good for buff items, but they only really shine the most in their Guardian Summons. Artisan will save you the most money and give you a great summon to boot.

Artisan Pros:
-You can craft all your armor.
-No need to spend large numbers of zeny for each individual piece of armor.
-You could potentially sell the pieces to non-artisans.
-Offtank BMs benefit the most.
-Veriel summons will increase dodging capabilities and cast speed. Beneficial to Tank or DPS BMs.
-Veriel skill deals quick continuous ranged damage. Beneficial to DPS BMs for the most part.

Artisan Cons:
-You may be behind on weapons, depending on drops. If you're lucky, you won't need to worry.
-You might have to buy your weapons if drops are that unlucky.
-DPS Beastmasters might suffer. Though this is HIGHLY unlikely.

Blacksmith Pros:
-You can craft your weapon. (Spears)
-No need to seek out blacksmiths and pay for their crafted gear.
-You could sell the extra armor and weapons to non-blacksmiths.
-Vulcan summon will increase your melee defense. A plus for Tank BMs.
-Vulcan summon allows for a skill which lowers enemy defense. A plus for DPS BMs.

Blacksmith Cons:
-You will most likely be behind on armor gear. Depending on drops.
-You will have to buy 5 individual pieces of armor, which will become very expensive.
-If you're going for a Tanking Beastmaster, you will lack the stats of crafted armors, but depending on drops this may not be an issue.
-Offtank BMs benefit very little.

Alchemist Pros:
-You will have plenty of potions.
-Buffs will be readily available.
-You could potentially sell your buff potions for money.
-Honhenheim summon will increase magic defense. Good for Tank BMs.
-Honhenheim summon allows for use of a skill that delivers magic and physical damage. A plus for DPS BMs.

Alchemist Cons:
-This profession, depending on skill point distribution, may not be beneficial, as the BM has a skill that heals HP (though not by a lot).
-You will have to buy BOTH armors and weapons for your class if your drops are that unlucky.
-HP/SP potions don't sell as well as buff potions.

Chef Pros:
-Food Buffs readily available.
-You could potentially sell your buff foods for money.
-Chef Food will speed up resting process, allowing for more kills in less time should your HP drop.
-Demeter summon will allow for faster HP regeneration. A plus for Tank BMs.
-Demeter summon will allow for a poisoning skill.

Chef Cons:
-You will have to buy BOTH armors and weapons for your class if your drops are that unlucky.
-HP/SP foods don't sell as well as buff foods.
