Just curious Cause i started a swordsman class hoping to be able to do high damage, but now all i seem to see is tanking guides. I was just curious if i make it to 50 will be by pigeon holed into a tanking roll or will i be able to dps like i want, Thanks for your time
How viable is a Swordsman for topping DPS?

It's going to depend mostly on who you play with and how good you are at the class.
Shield fortress is a requirment though. Its far too good of a support skill not to have even as dps and you have the points to get it anyway.
I'm working on a dps knight and I've had no real problems keeping up and sometimes beating other dps in the dungeons. Endgame is a slightly different beast and I'm not sure how my intended build is going to workout for damage. It's a work in progress.
That said the best I can offer you is simply stick with it. Make sure you let your party know you are dps up front.

It might be a bit tough during endgame, but variety is always nice.
Had an AGI Knight in RO1 so I started playing as a DPS Warrior. Later Changed to tank/offtank after hitting 50... it actually feels like a more rewarding role to fill in this game, although quite expensive. But I wouldn't decide against what you want to be.
