This is the firs game, where being ranged is like being melee.
As level 50 ranger, i find imposible farming normal level 50 mobs. Each kill takes 1/3 of my hp out because if i run, the monster resets, if i use ankle snare, i have to wait a lot between each kill, if i use potions i spend a ridiculous amount of zeny, if i buy food the incoming zeny is lower than spent zeny...
Really... something is wrong here, the combat system, economy or ranged classes must be checked, something is working wrong...
I've played mmorpgs for about 15 years, and this is the first game where i've found this problem. I'd bet for the ranged class problem, because is the first game where ranged class fights monsters on melee, so probably that is the key.
This is a farming game (craft mats, cards, etc...) where you can't farm... (only low level monsters, even level 45 monsters are very annoying to farm due to damage taken and repair costs)

I found that I can still kite things as long as I move in a circle rather than a straight line.

The situation you're describing is also the same as it was in WoW, TERA, and SWTOR.

I can't name a single game where a monster that melees doesn't try to melee range a ranged character and just stands there to take it.

If anything, this game requires more cooperation than SEA (in a way).

In a party situation, the Ranged classes do act like range.

As far as soloing goes, well this isn't like RO1 where Mages can firewall and Archer's can Kite or snipe. Honestly I've found times where I use Acrobat to get some distance from me and the enemy and I end up going outside their "Field" and they reset.

I freaking HATE resetting. I like RO1s maps where all possible monsters spawn on the same map.

Most likely the reason to have mobs reset is to prevent mob hoarding in specific areas.

Of course monster must try to get to us, but we should have enough tools/skills for keep them away of us, thats the way ranged classes works in every mmorpg. Here, you'll fight melee as archer class while soloing. Just makes no sense.

In WoW, as hunter, warlock or mage, RARELY a monster touched me when soloing standard mobs, same as ro1. Can't talk about SWTOR because i never played it.

Having a reset isn't a bad thing, having them reset 30m out when ranged attacks are 20m is just frustrating.

This was one of the fun things to find in RO1.

Go to Louyang field, find like 10 Mi gaos in a thicket in the bottom corner.

It's simple, your gear sucks.
Are you in full RHM gear? Do you have your Goblin Leader title + Quiver + bow from him? If you do (as me), you should have no problem killing lvl 50 mobs like scratch theifs before they get to you / land one hit on you.

time to get better equips.. either u wearing full greens, a combination of whites & greens, or you messed up ur stats because with a wizard i dont get hit at all and my dmg is high enough to kill it before it gets to me.. also i dont spend money on repairs and you shouldnt either.. thats something swordsman do

On the note of gears, is it an extremely substantial difference in damage/etc with just the lvl 50 blues? Mostly curiousity driving this question, sorry for OT.

posting this just discourages others from ranger. there is NOTHING wrong with ranger. i absolutely love it. mobs at my lvl do not take me to 1/3 hp. use pots and ur fine. every class has its challenges, go make a healer and then QQ about not doing dps and lvling slow.. always will be something..

Admittedly not lv50, but any mob that has given me trouble I just turn around real quick(pretty easy with the camera options) and use acrobatic in the direction the mob came from. Easy way to dodge without losing the mob. Between that, traps and solid gear I'm guessing the problem is user-based.

At first, I didn't like how much damage I was taking either because I didn't have any good gear (35-47); I had a freaking level 43 blue bow from quest and had to grind out to 50 just to wear my gear from Goblin Leader. But after I went through RHD's for few days, I had a big improvement in my damage and defense. Then when you're done getting all RHD gears, Scratch Thief cards, and/or Goblin Leader weapons, you should be ready for Bapho raids and can easily farm things.

Some rangers, especially AV rangers, are not about burst, but fast consistent damage. Also, a Ranger or two are always needed each time people set up a Raid because they can kite out of the aoe quickly and not get damaged a lot. So don't say they are useless or the worst class in this game.

I had something else to say, but I forgot, thanks to being tired.

"Ranger the worst class in this game" ?? There is something wrong with your ranger then Thaiku.. My lvl50 ranger on SEA was good in PVE, very quick to damage and kill many mobs in a row without pause.

Of course sometimes, some potions are needed but nothing to worry about so much. I use Ankle Snare sometimes, and combined with True Sight, Ankle snare more often. Sure the traps are sometimes buggy or what, but in the end, they help me to lose less HP and i don't waste so much time putting a trap on the ground.

I think Ranger is the best class in this game! ;D Well no in fact, there is no "best" class.. Everyone take the class he want/love to play. If you don't love to play with Ranger, take another class :-)

I don't know about this class, My ranger just doesn't seem like it's worth playing without a falcon constantly flying above my head.

I can only complain about the mob reset thing: sometimes you cant just kite in a circle since the mob may be near many hostile ones and rangers are not very good at taking on more than 1 at a time.

Lots of other bugs but those will be fixed soon ™.

Also for the love of god, either remove hit rating or rebalance it: classes like rangers and rogues who rely on HITTING something with combo/concentration building attacks its a freaking nightmare.

Not even wow was this bad when it came to hit rating.

I remember playing 'ranged-style' in Guild Wars 2. I wish in RO2 you could move around and considerably be able to kite your enemy even when using skills like Charged Arrow, etc (i.e. moving as the skill/animation is charging/going). The ranger only becomes truly ranged when in a party and not so much during solo PVE. It is kinda weird why Gravity didn't try to give it's ranged classes a better dynamism or give it a better next-gen feel but well that is how they balance stuff in-game.

Anyway, I find playing an RO game again (after RO1) is really fun, I really like this sequel BTW. But comparing it to some MMOs like GW2, RO2 can sometimes feel outdated and old-fashioned. I sometimes feel like I play RO2 only because of nostalgia (loved RO1 too) and not because it is something new like GW2.

Only gripe I have with ranged classes in this game is that you can't "snipe" off a nearby cliff or an edge they just reset...takes the reality out of it.
