If you like anime, you may like the movie.
If you hate anime with a passion, you might want to steer clear.
That is all.

Why is everyone comparing this to evangelion? its looks more like Mazinger z/Voltron vs Godzilla.

Giant robots are going to look similar no matter what you do. At least the production team tried to make their own original robots and not base them off of other existing mech franchises.Looks like an oversized transformer lol
It's pretty obvious if you've seen the movie. Why is everyone comparing this to evangelion? its looks more like Mazinger z/Voltron vs Godzilla.

Comparable to EVA? Not really, it's comparable on the fact that Pacific Rim and EVA both pay homage to old mecha anime and kaiju shows, with a (semi)-psychological aspect involved. But, in no way was the source material influenced by EVA and this is a fact stated by the creative team behind Pacific Rim. Like Zechiel stated it was influenced by shows like Mazinger Z/Voltron/Super Sentai
It's really a nice coincidence that there were parallels, but as I stated before Hideaki Anno and Guillermo del Toro both put forth their respective ideas as a homage which is where the parallels can be seen. But, the fact that its something in the same genre with a similar base-line premise doesn't mean that both works are really comparable to each other because at the end of it both properties are very different from each other.

... Uh, do you know what comparable means?

Both of which go in completely different directions and are in different styles.
Do you even know what a good comparison looks like?

It's just Evangelion without the teenage whining. So not as good but it's a great summer blockbuster.

Same here. I watched it for the visual effects and the computer generated graphics

Well its obvious the amount of references specially the word "Kaiju" you know, a word that became a thing after the first godzilla movie. its a matter of opinions but the first thing that came to my mind was Mazinger Z/Shin Getter Robo/ Voltron and Godzilla. Not -_- Final fantasy VII
Besides Evas are not giant robots.

If people are trying to use the line "we created monsters to fight monsters" as justification for the comparison there... well that still doesn't make EVAs full-fledged mechas.
But like I said the end result of both properties is completely different. Still felt more like an homage to older mecha works and not stuff brought up by the OP here.

The only comparison is that they have psychological aspects, mecha, and monsters.
Both of which go in completely different directions and are in different styles.

According to Dictionary.com:
com·pa·ra·ble
- capable of being compared; having features in common with something else to permit or suggest comparison.
- worthy of comparison.
- usable for comparison.
Someone doesn't know what a comparison is and it's not me.

>providing nothing else of substantial value to their own topic
>using dictionary.com
>still not providing other things that are more worthy of comparison
>ignores that distinctly EVAs are not mechas
>Lol Final Fantasy has giant monsters!
Pls little one.

If you don't like my comparisons in the OP, whatever, I made this thread 2 MONTHS (check the date, yo) before the movie came out so I described it purely based on visuals. It was Evangelion from the way Gipsy Danger was shaped and the Kaiju reminded me of FF7 in the way the WEAPONs in the game were massive on the world map. That was how I saw it from the trailers, geez. Never said a thing about EVAs, just Evangelion in general.
Anyways...
I remember reading someone's comment saying that people groan and moan about Hollywood not doing anything original, but when something original like Pacific Rim does get made, people gloss over it like it was nothing. Pretty sad, but true.

For younger folks, it's the closest point of reference that they have to giant "robots", plus there is the similar structure of "more and more powerful giant monsters appear one after the other to attack one of the last bastions of humanity".
Teen angst has been in giant robot anime since MS Gundam back in the 70s.

Anyone else noticed their robots were running GLaDOS?

Also, I noticed on IMDb, they actually got real-life Chinese triplets to play the role of the triplet pilots in the movie. Pretty crazy.
