Just suddenly one day (2 months ago) I couldn't go to websites such as Ragial, Warp Portal forums, and Rate My Server.
However I can still go on Warp portal.com, iro wiki, and iro wiki database.

Symptoms:
-For all the tablets and computers I used on the same internet, none of them could go to Ragial etc. Thus it might be a problem with my internet configuration. But I never changed it two months ago.
-The only computer that can go on the websites is my brothers, who has "System Mechanic Pro" installed - I did use that last month, and I could go on Ragial (however not Warp Portal forums...weird), but because of some other problems System Mechanic messed up my computer and I had to reinstall the OS, so that is not an option anymore =(.

These are what I tried:
-I saw that it could be a problem with my DNS so I've tried switching to google DNS and others but it didn't make a difference.
-Reinstalling operating system
-Restarting, reconfigurating, and resetting the router settings.
-System Mechanic software, which it did help, but eventually ruined my computer for some other reason.

Is there any way for me to manually configure my internet settings (if it is the problem) so I can go visit those websites? It's been a trouble without ragial and all x.x
P.S. I'm writing this for a friend because she can't go on forums and such >.< lol

What happens when you try?

Using Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome (for google chrome, you must go to settings, and uncheck "use a webservice to help with navigation errors", otherwise it gives you "helpful" errors which contain no useful information) and attempt to go to one of those sites. Copy+paste the error it displays, and that will give us a hint as to how to go forward.

In addition to following DrAzzy's instructions, please also do the following:

  • Open Command Prompt.
  • Enter "nslookup ragial.com".
  • Enter "nslookup forums.warpportal.com".
  • Right-click the window and then choose "select all".
  • Right-click the window again to copy the selection to the clipboard.
  • Include the copied text in a reply to this thread.

For Azzy's:

This webpage is not available
Google Chrome could not load the webpage because ragial.com took too long to respond. The website may be down, or you may be experiencing issues with your Internet connection.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
Check your Internet connection. Restart any router, modem, or other network devices you may be using.
Add Google Chrome as a permitted program in your firewall's or antivirus software's settings. If it is already a permitted program, try deleting it from the list of permitted programs and adding it again.
If you use a proxy server, check your proxy settings or contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working. If you don't believe you should be using a proxy server, adjust your proxy settings: Go to the Chrome menu > Settings > Show advanced settings... > Change proxy settings... > LAN Settings and deselect the "Use a proxy server for your LAN" checkbox.
Error 7 (net::ERR_TIMED_OUT): The operation timed out.

Not sure if it matters but we're not using a proxy, even though we did try using a proxy server to connect and it didn't work either.

Weirdly this is what she sees. Whenever she clicks any link on the page, she is directed to "Webpage not available"

I have a couple quick suggestions, if you're able to mess around with your network!

If you have a router in place, and are able to take it out and directly connect your PC to your modem with Ethernet (and feel comfortable with reversing the process) and see if it is a problem with the router. There might be some corrupted DNS/routing tables causing a problem there.

Do a full factory reset on the router, usually accomplished by jamming a paperclip into a hole for 10+ seconds. If your router has sensitive or manually set up configurations like port forwarding, manual IP addresses, secure Wi-Fi or anything like that, I would not do this unless you're confident with setting your router up again in your browser. If the router was initially just plugged in and devices were connected automagically, I'd say go for a factory reset!

It looks to me like there's some sort of DNS hangup along the line..... if any of the problem websites can be 'barebones loaded' with IP address like the WP forum pic, that usually means the other content isn't resolving the different DNS addresses.

I had a similar problem where I could -NOT- load ROPD for a couple months staight, and I was able to barebones load it... I eventually did factory reset the router and re-do all my network settings to fix it. A pain, but it did work. Good luck!

Also, try ragnastats.com for an alternative to Ragial, also see if that site loads, heh.

Yes, as I suspected, the problem is related to DNS.

You should contact your ISP and explain the problem to them. Ensure you mention the fact that you can access the otherwise inaccessible web sites if you use their numerical addresses.

I wouldn't recommend you reset your router without first consulting your ISP because doing so could leave you without a working Internet connection.

Hmm thank you, I will tell her to try that.

I see. It is weird though, because installing System Mechanic would allow her to visit the sites, so I thought it could be solved with some simple changes to the computer on our side. I will let her know to contact her ISP.
Thanks a lot for the help!

I suspect that the fix will be simple, but trying to help someone fix their router without having direct access to it would be extremely difficult. (We know that the fault lies with the router because the problem is affecting multiple devices.)

Power cycling the router would be a good idea - this is standard procedure when one suspects that the router has gotten into a bad state (as most consumer routers are wont to do).

Failing that, just switch your computer to use google public DNS, and that should solve the problem...

Several problems with that. First:

-I saw that it could be a problem with my DNS so I've tried switching to google DNS and others but it didn't make a difference.

Second, as this post shows:
- DNS resolution succeeded
- If resolution had failed, the message from chrome would have been "Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED): Unable to resolve the server's DNS address", not "Error 7 (net::ERR_TIMED_OUT): The operation timed out"

So what do you think is the cause of the problem?

What's really weird is that they can access the site if they use the IP address, but if they use the name, it doesn't work (this is consistent with the appearance of the page when using the IP - the page loads, but it fails to load the stylesheets and all the links (because they all specify the full path, including the server, not a relative path, and as we've seen, this doesn't seem to work for him).

It sounds almost like a misbehaving transparent HTTP proxy, but that alone wouldn't explain why "System Mechanic Pro" was apparently able to make a difference.

System Mechanic Pro includes a "NetBooster" which it claims improves web browsing speed - I'm not sure what mechanism that one uses, but I know some of them use a proxy to achieve the claimed improvement in web browsing performance - if that's how System Mechanic Pro does it, that would explain how it fixed the problem...

Have you tried doing what Chrome recommends in that error message? I remember a number of people in the past have had problems due to bogus proxy settings (where the system is configured to use a non-existent or non-functional proxy, presumably due to malware)

That message implies that Chrome is using a proxy and knows it... Yet presumably the OP is not supposed to be using a proxy server.

She is not supposed to use a proxy server and "Use a proxy server for your LAN" is disabled - I was to make sure that proxy wasn't enabled.

Although before she reinstalled her operating system we also tried using proxy servers to visit ragial but it wouldn't work either.
