first of all, sorry for my bad english

this post is for discuss the role of the bm in general and the human form in particular.

When I choose the bm i was expecting for a transform class a flexibility in use in exchange of being a hard to use class. in other word, we can be a good tank, a good dps, a self-healer, but the sacrifice will be the dificult to dominate all modes.

the selfheal skills are ok and the tank mode is fine too, but there are 4 good tank classes ._., we can discuss all day if bm are better tank than monk/warrior or warrior/monk are better than us, but this is not the point,

I read the post on this forum and we focus only in tank/offtank mode, if i want to be all day in grizzly form, I was make me a knight, but as a transform class, we should use grizzly/bear/tiger/ human in the same battle, and here is where the human form can make a difference.

our weak poins is the dps side, with a little change in an useless human form we can reach a balance without being an op class.

now I see the human form have 2 benefits: 1 lower animations skills (apparently) and a lower size (usefull only in pvp) but if we can add here something like the +30% atk of the bear form our gameplay can cange drastically without adding new skills.

I was thinking something like an agi/eva or spdatk benefit and a debuff like a chance of reduce oponent def(20/30% maybe (?) ) for 15/20 sec when we hit him.

with this, we can reach a decent dps for 15/20 sec when the enemy get debuffed and we swith to bear form. and how loved could be this debuff in a phisical party (and if we add a mdef reducction too it will we usefull in all type of parties).

I wanna hear opinions and sugestions about this, i am in lvl 44 . So maybe im wrong in some point my intention is not to make the bm an op class, but yes take it out of the "tank" class, and make it a flexible class

tnks and sorry again for my bad english

I definitely agree that we ought to have some type of benefit for using the human form. I really like the skill animations as a human, but when I need to use some skills, it feels too limiting when I change forms.
Then there's the issue of travel. Often times when I have full health while in Grizzly form, but am sent off to a long distance for some reason or another, I'm left with two options.
  • Ditch the form and the HP for using mounts, only to switch back when I reach the location. Then waiting for my HP to fill again.
  • Walk for an extra 5-10 minutes. But with no worries to regenerate or use food.
It's a real hassle when getting around in this form, because you have to either compromise HP for a moment and heal it back later, or compromise speed to keep the HP.

One survival already makes up half of the HP you lost going out of grizzly... if you don't want to wait, just use your mount for the largest part of the way, switch to grizzly and use survival, walk the rest and use survival again (if still needed).

I really, really hate being so slow at killing things. But what can ya do, full tank ya know?

As for human form. I dont believe we need a buff for it. As BMs we should be transforming for battle, you know. Like what a real BM would do. Our strength is to transform, not to stay human.

Anyway, i pictured the BM class as more of a trans class for Ranger or something. My assumption is that the new classes for the BM will route down pure dps and pure tank. So them messing around with BM would be futile right now in my eyes.

BMs are amazing tanks and honestly shouldnt be looked at for anything else. I dont know how many times a joined a party half done with a dungeon, looking for a tank cause the last one left them. They seem skeptical of my class unless they have seen one before, but eventually they seem to appreciate what a BM can do. Im not trying to bash other tank classes, i guess each and every tank class can be op and perfect if enough time was spent on them.

Human form has one other major advantage in colo that a lot of people might overlook. When you use fury strike while in human mode all of the damage is done together when you use it instead of split into two separate hits making it much better for getting KS since a lot of times someone else will get a killing blow in between the two hits.

Yeah, true, but it's just a hassle with the switches either way. It's nothing I feel religious about, but it's definitely an inconvenience.

On the note of BM being a Tank class, I completely agree. I actually have a story of an earlier dungeon run.
I was helping some folks out with Izlude Cave, we had a party of a Swordsman, an Acolyte, two Thieves, and a Beastmaster (myself). I'm told to go DPS for the group. We made it to the first boss okay, but when we actually fought it, the tank died with one DPS because they stayed in the electric circle Vadonvadon casts on occasion. So my first instinct is to switch form. I do so and we end up beating the boss. A quick revival of the tank and a Yggdra Leaf on the DPS, and they tell me they had no idea BM could tank. Many laughs were shared all around as we had two tanks to finish off the rest of the dungeon.

So yeah, it's definitely a matter of people not knowing that BMs are indeed good tanks. However, near end game, we do tend to go more along the Off Tank path, which is unfortunate. Not saying there aren't Pure Tank BMs near the end game, but it's still something that's a commonality.

I have 2 maxed class and now looking for a "for fun" character. I was thinking of making a full-human form beastmaster (atleast human 80% of the time) and wondering how viable this is. From the looks of it, it would be mostly a dps build and Im cool with that.

So, any insights from experienced BMs?

You can max out every skill that can be used in human form by level 40 giving you 10 extra points to put in anything else of your choosing. If you're really don't plan on fighting in bear or grizzly then you could put the other points into tiger for faster travel. You could also put points into frenzy, switch to bear mode when you want to use it and then switch back to human form since it wont go away but that might be cheating and the same could be said for survival though it's not as effective without grizzly form maxed out.
