Alright so! I've been hearing from friends over the last few months that Niddhogur isn't as hard to solo as I thought an MVP of its status would be. While they do play other classes, I figured it would be as easy or even easier with a Geneticist.

After spending countless days getting through all of those horribly tedious pre-req quests, I finally found myself inside the dungeon. Everything was alright until I spoke to the Yggdrasilid and she told me to hunt 12 monsters by the name of "Niddhogur's Guardian" within the allotted time. It pretty much all went downhill from there. Halfway through I ended up losing count since I didn't realize there was no quest log for that part, but at some point I just couldn't find anymore. I was stuck at 6 or maybe 7 I have no idea and the 30 minutes ended up expiring.

I plan on trying it out again when my timer is up, but obviously the few videos I've seen didn't do me much good so I'd like to ask for the help of those who may have done it in the past. Namely...

- other than hovering over each monster's name is there any easier way to differentiate the special ones? I wasted quite a bit of time running around hovering.
- can the special ones end up on the other side of the dungeon? Like, say, the beginning of it? Because I feel as if I went running around in circles bumping into invisible walls without finding any.

Also I would greatly appreciate any other tips you could offer, including the actual fight with Nidd if there are any. :>
Of course if you have any questions that might help I'd be more than happy to answer~

They spawn relatively close to the npc. You want to avoid killing anything in the tunnel leading to the main part of the map to stop countless mobs spawning around there. You can't tell them apart except by the name. What you should be doing is getting groups of -_- together and blast them with demonic fire/fire expansion (Maybe cart cannon is just as good now). Avoid killing anything or being hit by anything if you don't have to, as this will just eat time. If you are low on time, start bombing the guards you see and cart boost away from other mobs.

Fight with nid is fairly easy, you can avoid all of his nasty attacks by running off screen of the cast bar, or just sit there and token the quake. Things to avoid are killing nyd right as you get ported to the first (or second if you are terribad) room, as even with a replay it took me months to get the gms to restore my items. With mediocre gear on a gen, you should be able to kill it before the first door without any problems.

I probably went farther left than I needed to.

Ah, thanks a lot! The video really helped. I hadn't thought of using Fire Expansion, I was CCing/Bombing things away. Luckily I have Sera's Painkiller to back me up, so tanking things isn't really an issue, and the short Endure effect helps out quite a bit. It's also loads off my mind knowing they won't spawn all the way at the beginning of the dungeon. I must have just been getting mixed up and running into the same mobs or something. >_>' I noticed the guards tend to only be the ones with the massive ~350k HP, so I can completely ignore Elementals/Pinguicula?

Thanks again! I think this'll really help for the next time I take a crack at it.

I have another genetic but I can't put myself through those horrible pre-req quests again. .___. I almost died of boredom collecting all those expedition things, until I finally happened to catch the last ones I needed on Ragial.

Taken from another thread: guardians spawn locations. Should probably go for the 2 Rhyncho guardians in the south (2 green dots) before they wander further then work your way east and north killing the rest of the guardians.

Oh wow, thanks! That's going to be really helpful. It's very possible they just wandered further and further away while I was running around heh. @_@

And thanks Masterpiece, but I never was in your guild. XD In any case, I think with all this information I'll be able to do it next time~

from my experience, the guardian won't move until they see player close to their "area" (1-3 tiles away from being on 1 screen with them). or at least until certain amount of time. so its best to kill the closest ones asap.

Ah, really? I would imagine they'd do the same as any other monsters when in an idle state. My main worry would be if I went off the get the ones that are further away, the other ones that seem to be more clumped together will spread out. I suppose once you do it over and over you start to get the hang of it, it gets faster and that becomes less of an issue.

The ones Beata mentioned do seem to be pretty far from the rest and letting them wander off even more might prove troublesome if they do move.

its like in endless tower, the monsters appear after a certain condition (the previous floor is cleared), and the won't move until someone being almost as 1 screen with them.

exactly. you do not want those guardian in that area to spread out.
that area has the most guardian, and when it spread out it would really "spread out" because its a very open area.
also watch out for the lower most phylla in that middle upper area, she tends to wonder around because you already in her area, but she's a bit too far away to agro'ed on you while you busy killing other guardians in that area.

and yup the first few times usually a bit frustrating xD, it'll get easier overtime.

Ah, I see. Alright I will try to get rid off the bulk of them first, then go for the more singled out ones. I should probably also bring a hide clip with me next time, seems like it might come in handy... I wish that 30 minute limit wasn't there, so much pressure. :heh:

Thanks again everyone for the advice! I'm pretty confident for next time. C:

Yeah it probably won't be an issue anymore once I get the hang of it. Reminds me of when I first started doing hazy forest but I kept getting lost even while looking at a map, now after who knows how many times I know it by heart.
