I was wondering, when exactly do you gms plan to Re-Enabling costumes in WoE maps.
I know I sound dumb, but LOL I can't bear the fact of seeing ugly stuff on peoples' characters.
Honestly, to be honest, it seem as if the lag is and will always be bad.
:C Please answer, and give precise details why costumes arent allowed on woe maps.

It was done after the merge when WoE was lagging horribly (queue lag - that's when you lag, and then your character goes through all the actions you tried to do, in order, several seconds after you tried to do them - it's caused by the server getting bogged down), and the hope was that disabling it would fix the lag. I'm not sure where they came up with that idea, but WoE stopped lagging when they did so - so I guess that's what was doing it.
I can't rationalize why, but who cares. I'd rather have fun WoE without costumes than laggy WoE that wasn't worth coming to with costumes. I think Oda discussed it in the maint threads at the time, so look back to maint threads shortly after the great merger for more details.

Also, as an aside, WoE headgears would be uglier with costume. Everyone would have a tarnished lamp or birthday cake. And both of those are fugly.

so thats what it is called. I was getting that kind of horrible lag for the first time, last week for gramps turn ins. I thought my keyboard was broken or something. I kept smashing my aoe key, then after all the mobs died, my aoe kept going with zero button presses.

That's just the name I started calling it, to differentiate it from the other kinds of lag you can experience. Not sure to what extent it's caught on, but we needed something to call it back when WoE was unplayable because of it.

I want a Cat Ear Beret costume costume, to cover up the lamp costume hat.

Or a setting to turn on/off costumes but keep their effects.

I'm not sure where they came up with that idea, but WoE stopped lagging was reduced when they did so - so I guess that's what was doing it.

Disabling costumes is something of a band-aid fix to fix WoE lag. Yes, it certainly helped decrease lag but costumes should not have to be disabled in order to manage lag.

I'm very disappointed in you dr azzy!
D:< If you need to know, not everyone would use the lamp or cake hat.
besides, cake hat is kawaii.
>:o you aren't think of the other costume gears people are capable of using.
Besides most costumes looks cuter than Turkey hat, and CEB and RPB is like way last season.

I do miss having costumes but considering how much the lag decreased I don't want them back - their stat bonus still works even though they are disabled so I can't complain about that.

What chiyo said was right though.
Costumes shouldn't have to be disabled to help reduce the lag.
I THINK RO should get somethign new to fix the lag instead of taking -_- out of the game.
If thats the damn point, take off the damn auras to reduce the lagg too!

I want my costumes back. CEB + BDM look so ugly. ._.

If they disabled auras during WoE I might actually be able to play with effects on though... :lv:

I want everyone to get free costumes to cover up all the alarm masks/witch combos. Its really not a nice look to see all over. Lamp + alarm mask is pretty ugly too.

And I totally agree auras need to go...or be set to off by default (not simplified)

Using /effect did not fix the lag. Pretty sure disabling aura effects and such will not help at all. I played with effects just fine and the lag is the same regardless of having effects on or not.

/aura anyone? But still, it likely wouldn't make a big difference.

It helps a lot for me, the only time I ever notice any lag at all is with a bunch of auras on screen and when there's Storm Gust/Lord of Vermillion spam - Wizard spells are the worst for me. I wish there was a way to close effects from all characters but your own, because I would like to see my Masquerades but instead I have to listen close to the effect noise to see whether or not I've succeeded. Even that's hard since at the same time I have to listen to a bunch of other skill effect noises and try to differentiate my own from theirs.

/aura anyone? But still, it likely wouldn't make a big difference.

/aura doesn't do anything but simplify it. I don't want to see it at all; I really don't care what level other people are during WoE.

Just saying it would be a nice option for those of us who do have that sort of lag. :P

Yeah, I wouldn't mind being able to turn only the Auras off. It would reduce machine lag for people with older computers. Even then, it won't solve server lag one bit. That's the biggest issue people are having here. Disabling costumes helped reduce that server latency. I don't want it any worse than it still is.

Disabling costumes didn't help the lag at all. The population drop helped the lag.

Because of auras this is pretty much what I have to do multi-times every day.

Buy my supplies in town
Turn off effects
Go to eden and accept gramps quest
Warp to the ti map and turn on effects
Fight until I run out of supplies
Warp to town and buy new supplies
Turn off effects
Go back to eden and warp back to the ti map
Turn effects back on

repeat, repeat, repeat.

I don't even really like when my own characters have auras.
