I've no idea about this in the late game, but what I've noticed so far is that people in dungeons tend to give me lots of SP potions for free, thinking that I don't have any, or urge me to drink them more often. Is it so important to keep 100% SP levels constantly, even when not really needed? I never ran out of mana, and even if I don't have any potions I still have a fairly useful Aqua Benedicta to back me up.

I'm guessing they have 1000% more stuff than they need. I've had Chefs gimme buff food for free, they can't do anything with it, but give it away.

You never need sp pots like ever. I keep a few on me just in case or a few purples but I've never needed them. If they want to give them away tell them to pass them to sorcs or wizards. But yeah I've had people push items on my too before. I think they just want to try and clear their inventory and don't find the few rupees they could get for the item worth it when someone else might find it useful.

Good idea. I'm an Alchemist, and with mob drops, plus people giving them out I've a full storage of MP potions e__e Sorcerers will use them more

Yeah I've never needed SP potions on my L50 priest. Aqua Benedicta is plenty to keep my SP full, even during periods of heavy healing.

I'm not level 50 yet, and the only time I can remember needing to use SP pots was when I got hit by Gedenhard's "Magic Illusion" thing. Even before getting higher levels of WIS with mid-game gear, I still had enough for Aqua Benedicta to fill me back up properly.
