Well, I started out as a DPS Knight.

I ended up taking Aura Armor after a while to get into raids, otherwise it was hard.

Man its insane. DPS Gear (all of it, I have zero parry/dodge gear, they are ALL vigor/hit) and battle tactics makes me the ultimate threat machine, no one is capable of catching up to me without taunt.

Give it a try. Its insanely fun.

Full DPS gear, all 5 Colo INT accessories, AGI/INT cards, full AGI costumes - I have 50%-55% raid buffed crit.

ITS SO GOOD O:

Yes and? A tank in dps gear does more threat. This isn't news. Your job as a tank isn't to do damage, its to soak it up and avoid/reduce it. You can get away with it in the tier 1 stuff but CoA will have healers screaming at you.

Actually, I did CoA Hard Mode , my gear is as follows:

Einherjar Helm
Darkness Valkyrie Breastplate

Darkness Valkyrie Plated Gaiters

Dark Einherjar Gauntlets

Desperate Apostle Boots

+9 Colo Sword

+7 Colo Shield

all 5 INT accessories

Costumes are all +AGI runes

And I survive fine. Our healers might just be too good I guess?

And I disagree. Adding a tank to the potential DPS of the raid makes everything easier and Lubu is mad at me for out-threating him x:

The only points I die to is when I take too many mobs on me because someone decides to pull all the damn Kurorings, those things HIT WAY TOO HARD ARGH

O:

Anyhow, I've had way more fun DPS-Tanking than I had DPS OR tanking seperately

I found the best of both worlds and it suits me fine.

That would do it right there. Enough agi would make up for it. And you're running +10 in every slot yes?

Mostly +8 and +9, only 2 +10, and the CoA Mini+Culvert card set

As a warrior you have Defender to help you.

As a Knight, I have damage skills, shield fort and aura shield (20% less dmg, 10 sec, every 47 sec (60 sec base, depends on vigor))

So by stacking AGI I get my dodge a bit higher, true, but the crits man, the crits! oh the crits~

And natural high defense for having a shield.

I really like this playstyle.

Technically the only limitations are if you are taking TOO much damage or if you are producing TOO little threat.

Everything in between is more or less utility tradeoffs, while raw tankDPS can help simplify encounters by shortening them, the lack of excess bulk can make the group more vulnerable to execution errors, i.e. What happens if you drop a healer vs dropping a DPS during a boss fight, a less tanky-tank might not survive with one less healer, conversely, if you drop a DPS, maybe you can still beat an enrage timer mechanic if your Tank is pulling good numbers.

Tank DPS above the threat requirement such that you're not capping your actual DPS is a luxury just like extra Tankiness above the minimum required to not die on the encounter.

In optimal/flawless execution scenarios, free DPS is more useful than free tankiness.

It's a hybird build. Long as the healers can keep up you can do it. It does put more stress on healers though vs a full tank build. You'll always take more than a full tank knight and you'll never do the damage a full dps knight will do but thats a hybrid for you.

Mostly +8 and +9, only 2 +10, and the CoA Mini+Culvert card set

Ya i'd love to have all that agi. I could actually beat a rogue at that point. Don't have the money or zenny to afford it.

Been leaning towards tank gears but.... I do want to dish out damage too...

guess i'll do this:
"Full Tank gear, colo sword, all 5 Colo INT accessories, AGI/INT cards, full AGI costumes"

This way I shouldn't lose anything significant damage wise except the cd reduc.. right?

Edit: Just noticed this is what ive been working towards all this time, doh. =x

However I do not recommend this for anyone just starting out.

I hit 50 and had almost a full set of purple gear waiting for me and points for the colo sword.

Crafted: Darkness Valkyrie Plated Gaiters, Breastplate, Darkness Apostle Gauntlets and Plated Boots, Darkness Valkyrie Shield, Darkness Valkyrie Sword (to upgrade those 2 to Tier3 and Tier4 eventually, they will be better than the Colo and WoE stuff)

Accessories: Colo INT/AGI

Helm: whatever hard mode or colo, mine is Hard mode CoA

Upgrade your crafted stuff to colo or CoA H whenever possible.

From my point of view, TANK+DPS knights are best suited than pure TANK or pure DPS
.

I'm thinking of getting INT colo accesories and Tank gear (parry dodge).

Yes thats what i did. The Vigot/hit/haste accessories only offer AGI/INT but if Parry/Dodge ones gave the same i would of grabbed those in a heartbeat. A high AGI/INT tank has slow bursts but during a lengthy boss battle it's basically a DPS in itself.

Battle Tactics man, it's just that good.

Should I use 5 STC+ cards or 3 STC + and 2 AGI/INT cards like Poisona or anacondarc?

How long did it take to get the 700k for a colo weapon?

i think this is true... not 100% sure but if you're dps gear, i dont know how you gonna tank RM hard.

you should thank your priest and sorc keeping you alife :)  I am guessing most of the time you're OT not MT to be honest.

low hp, alot of crit Agi, i dont think any coa hard raid would want you to be MT to be honest.

little hp dont make any difference, but if you're talking about 1k+ with tank gear, you can MT.
