How did it crash your computer?
Did it display any error messages? Did it freeze? Did the computer just turn off?

Walk away for 20-30 minutes and see if it's at a UAC installation permission screen when you return. On some Win vista/7 systems it does some sort of dark ritual dance around the installer that consumer all available system resources for 10+ minutes before deciding to give any feedback to the user. I blame windows for this.

I ran the setup on my windows desktop and it took about 2-3 minutes. I ran it in Wine on my linux netbook, and it took about 3 seconds. ;)

That's because the windows machine was trying to do something dumb that linux doesn't even try to.

I had it take >10 minutes on win7 test machine, though to be fair that machine was somewhat underpowered for such a bloated OS.

open your task manager (ctrl+alt+delete ) first, right click the installer and say run as admin, and see if the process shows up in your window before the computer freezes. it would be good to know if UAC is stalling the machine or the installer itself. hopefully its UAC and you can just disable this option under control panel -> users before trying again, and if this doesn't work let us know :]
