I think the eden group could be pseudo-implemented on this server, putting all the different item turn in quests that are currently available also available there, and the NPCs tell which maps (and possibly even bring up a small screenshot of the world map with the specific map highlighted) directing the new players towards it.  There doesn't have to be eden gear or the other eden quests, but this would be a helpful safe haven for new players to thrive and meet each other, and for guilds to find new players, etc.

There are places that are made for doing that already in the game, they're called cities.  You can even warp to Prontera now from anywhere as long as there's a kafra to save at for a bwing back.

I agree, but having a "base" that is accessible from any town fosters people to party and meet each other, not to mention giving the illusion that the server is bigger (which we certainly need right now...)!

And what better place to put that than the Eden group?

so uh, nothing else at all? dang, i was on vacation hoping people were actually gonna throw out some alternative ideas. i do like melkor's idea, though i interpreted it as having the npcs for various TIs (goats, hodes, whatever) all in one place, with maybe a warp there? it could be nice ! and yeah, you don't need any actual new quests or whatever, it's just a place where people could congregate. lots of people in one place is theoretically good for partying... right? :c cities no longer accomplish that, as there are so many nooks and crannies for guild spots that you could miss some people forever ! maybe make vending impossible on the TI floor of eden, too ?

also re: the idea that handing gear to people would make it more wow-esque, how else could you convince people that they're not incredibly far behind everyone who's already established? at this point "put in the work" is kind of silly, because dang near every one of us went into classic with lord knows how much previous experience from the old servers. i guess i see where you're coming from, and we could easily limit the availability of the gear quest (cooldowns? one time only ? i dunno). unlike the wow quests (as i understand them, at least), this would just be one tier of gear, and it'd be pretty mediocre compared to real stuff but far better than npc junk. no escalation into better rentals or something, just SOMETHING so you're not heading into the mid levels completely naked. we can do it because we know what we're doing. theoretical new players don't. bonus: private server players who do know what they're doing will have a nice little bit of help to make that leap to being on par with better people.

ascend hit the nail on the head, but i think the best place to start there would be the training grounds thread which, unfortunately, i haven't gone through yet.

in conclusion: c'mon, dudes !! everyone goes on about classic bein' terrible for new players. we can either let it die or do our best with what we have. personally, i still like playing, so i'll try and throw ideas out if i get em !
