I read these topics in discussion and I see people either say use it for training or they say no and say go buy other cards to make shields with.

I just want to understand if this shield isn't necessary or is it viable in most situations. examples will be greatly welcomed thanks! :no1:

It's not necessary but still nice to have, especially in places like TIs, Nogg or ET where there's a variety of monster race. If you plan to level in places like Scaraba , Juperos, etc then you don't really need it. Not sure if this is an answer you're looking for.

It is not a fantastic card. The pinnacle of its use is a gramps turn in where all four enemies have different races and different elements and different sizes. It is rare for there not to be at least a few with the same features.

How many racial cards are there and what is an anti-medium?

There are 10 total. I have multiple Valk and Novice shields (for my Super Novice) with mostly the most common race reduction cards like demon, insect, demi-human, formless, etc. I almost have all of them actually.

Anti-medium = Ogretooth card (Reduce damage received from medium-size monsters by 25%). There are also anti-small and anti-large shield cards.

Is it a huge difference if u can just use bradium shield or is valkyrja more better? For the 10 racial cards

I wouldn't - these are sort of a last resort - i'm sure they'd make sense if we played renewal without the TI maps, so we were pushed to really optimize hard for a leveling map, and I'm sure there are a couple of places where there are monsters that hurt of different sizes and races.

There isn't a complete set of ele resist shield cards, and there are as many elements as races, except element cards give 20% reduc and race cards give 30% reduc. Heck, the size cards give 25%, and there are only three sizes!

I use valk shield for Alice shield for MVP and cranial for PVP/WoE (both situations where the ele resist makes a big difference).

For less important races, you're fine using a cheaper shield (particularly if the race card is also cheap, so you don't feel bad putting it into something cheap.) If you're on a tight budget, try to find ones that are being sold already carded - these are almost always cheaper than making a new one.

I'm not too sure why this topic is in merchant forums... seems more like a general topic? :questionmark:

There is almost always a better card choice for hodrem in every situation. Some regular maps like Nogg are a weird mix of races and sizes etc. but that's more of a unique case.

Also, platinum shield offers both the medium and large resist a hodremlin offers (along with undead race resist). And there aren't that many small monsters either so platinum shield is kind of fine for most situations you would use a hodremlin. Putting a hodremlin in a valk shield gives you elemental resists though.

I usually refer to hodremlin as more of the "lazy" card choice. It's OK for everything but usually not the best. But with all the weird TIs we get, it's almost like the GMs are trolling the players and maybe players really should just default hodrem every week...

Another "use" of hodremlin is for putting it in very expensive shields that you are mostly using for "general use". For example, a +12 immune shield for the extra neutral resist, or a Bible of Promise Vol. 2 (AB only though, and requires level 140+). It's too expensive to buy several of these for every race, and you might still want to use them in general PVM situations.

Although if you do have a +12 immune shield, and are stacking other neutral resists (namely Deviling Card), a hodrem starts to make more sense there and actually offers quite good reduction against pretty much ANYTHING (except elemental attacks).

But overall, everyone really should have a set of most of the common races' shields. They can even just be in round bucklers or whatever.

Beats me, ask the OP!

Is there any other source of % damage reduc from neutral ele? HBP 10% + DR 50% + 12Immu = 68%... If you add any amount of neutral resist from other sources, parasite card would become better than hodremlin (for normal attacks, I mean)

Not too many I know of, there's 3D glasses and Garuda Hat, but yeah mainly Deviling. That does sound like a ton of neutral resist, but I would imagine a +12 Hodrem Immune shield has much better resell value than one with parasite card though. :p_sick:

Tatacho card? -20% neutral dmg from what I remember

That's -% damage from neutral element monsters. (all damage regardless of element, as long as the monster or player is neutral element. This stacks multiplicatively with DR/etc)

We're talking about -% neutral element damage (all neutral damage, regardless of the element of the monster. This stacks additively with DR/etc)

Not too many I know of, there's 3D glasses and Garuda Hat, but yeah mainly Deviling. That does sound like a ton of neutral resist, but I would imagine a +12 Hodrem Immune shield has much better resell value than one with parasite card though. :p_sick:

My god....

DR (50%) HBP (10%) + +12 Immune Shield (8%) + Parasite (5%) + 3DG (5%) + Garuda (5%) = 83% neutral resistance?!

Going from 78% to 83% reduc is comparable to a 22% reduction that stacks multiplicatively with it... This is starting to get into obscene territory - can we scare up any more neutral resist?

(also, do 3d glasses actually work correctly?)

DR (50%) HBP (10%) + +12 Immune Shield (8%) + Parasite (5%) + 3DG (5%) + Shaman Hair Decoration (5%) + Shaman Set (5%) + Skin Tempering or Ur's Plate(5%) + Hard Rice Cake pet = 94%

There's also marionette pet, which has chance to give you 20% neutral reduc for a few seconds.

Beautiful. I forgot about the shaman set.

The best part is that I have all that gear :-P
