Greetings, Ninja players. If you don't remember me, I was the one guy that wrote the iROwiki articles for half the Kagerou skills. I've taken a long break from the game and I was thinking of playing again. I parked my Kagerou at 139/38 and I was interested in max levelling it. However, since the Kunai Explosion nerf, it became extremely hard to mob Scarabas(due to the small AoE).

Before I took the break, I WoE'd as a Support Kagerou and I had a blast doing so. With Charms and low level Illusion skills, I could easily hold back 5~10 people on my own. Despite not being able to kill anybody, holding back so many people, causing ailments to literally everyone, and giving my guild time to regroup and reorganize was definetely worth the effort of being there. By checking ROPD I found out that the number of K/Os above my level didn't increase that much, even after over half an year since I left.

However, to those that did manage to max their K/Os, I'd like to ask on what method they used to reach that high. I suppose doing TIs will eventually max me out but, as an old school, grinding is what feels most natural to reach high level.

I was going for a sort of hybrid KS/Rapid Throw build, with the following stats and gear:

99 STR

90 VIT

14 INT

90 DEX

90 LUK

My skills are a mess and I'll have to reset them anyway. I was wondering whether going Magic would be interesting at this point(mobbing scarabs with Blaze Shield and Exploding Dragon), or perhaps there's a way to 1 hit KO Scarabs with KE(even if it's hard to hit, it would be fine if they died in 1 hit).

Short Version: How do I level?

Ignore the guy above unless you want to spend a few years to level up your Obo/Kag. I got my Ninja to level 150/50 by casting blazing shield at Scaraba. You can probably one shot them if you have a +12 Moon Rabit Hat, +9 HBP, +9 FAW Spell18, two spell enchanted bazeralds, or any good magic attack gears. You also need to do a quest to access the scaraba dungeon.

You could try a throwing/magic hybrid. Combining skills into effective combos to wipe things out. It depends what kind of build you actually want. What you find fun using and playing. Then move on from there.  I am going to try a throwing/melee hybrid myself using very minute magic skills (level 3 freezing spear) For both WoE and pvm/MVP

its a skill we started teaching Blue Lotus Clan members maybe a week or so after the Kagerou patch came out... the advantage of having a all ninja clan is we have all the secrets... there are many many things ive learned about the various skills you wont find in the various guides out there because people race to level as fast as they can and focus on max killing power and not the details... theres also a skill that can cut the exp you get from monsters... so many little tricks out there...

I reset my stats to 120 STR and 99 DEX, and made a slighly better Grimtooth(AS 4/2). I can almost 1 Hit Scarabas. The ones with lower HP are dying about 30% of the time, and a Throw Kunai to the others will finish the job. That said, it's still dangerous enough that I die too often to lvl up efficiently until I can 1 Hit KO them 100% of the time.

I've been using a MG with Kaho and 3 Caramels, so a Quad AS MG should hurt more(specially now that I have higher STR).Raising my JobLvl will also add to the skill, making 1 hitting them much more likely. I'll probably carry on like this to 150.

Sorry for double posting, but I wanted to bump the topic with this new information.

I bought a Quad AS Main Gauche to see if I could do more damage. Turns out I was doing less damage to Scarabs compared to my previous off-hand setup(a 92% boost weapon with 20% earth and 3xInsectoid cards).

I expected the MG to do more damage, but doesn't seem to be the case. The difference was significant, too.

+5 Grimtooth with EA4/2+Quad AS MG: ~48k damage

Same Grimtooth with 92% MG: ~60k

*Edit 1*

Would a Ship Captain's Hat be good? The 7% ranged damage bonus is decent enough.

I've upgraded my Grimtooth to +7 and bought a Ship Captain's Hat. My damage on Scarabas now ranges from 70~80k and I can easily 1 hit them. That said, grinding in Scarabas is still immensely difficult because my -_- HP doesn't give me much leeway for errors. If I am put against a wall with 2~3 Scarabas on me, I die almost instantly. I was able to grind for 15 minutes or so at about 7~9m base EXP/Hour(lvl 140) before dying. It took much effort and quick fingers, not exactly light and mechanical.

My final decision is that: Grinding like this is possible, but much harder than grinding with an RK or a GX. It gives about as much as a TI party's share EXP, or less even. The chance of death is high and you need supplies and getting there is a pain in the ass(specially if you get disconnected as often as I do). Go for it if you need, but I am probably going to stick to TI parties until 150.

I am using the following:

+0 Airship Captain's Hat(too lazy to upgrade it u.u)

Robo Eyes

+8 Special Ninja Suit(Porcellio)

+7 Grimtooth EA4/2

+8 Main Gauche with Kaho+3x Caramel

+9 Raydric HBP

+4 Shackles

Bloody Shackle Ball

Spell Flow Clip

Fire Endowed, using 9 Earth Charms. Nothing external.

Overall, this is a pretty basic gear set. I am surprised I was able to reach 80k with it. I wonder if there's a way to make it go higher? +12 Grimtooth with EA 6/6 might do the trick.

Indeed. If Illusion-Shadow didn't have such a huge cooldown, I could probably grind using that to focus mobs onto a cell and have long enough to aim at them, but that's not the case.

I did try AoEing when it was still 7x7 and it was pretty easy and intuitive. Reality sucks.

Absolutely nothing in Bifrost Tower is worth the time to loot it, except Dustballs for the quest itself.

From what you told me, the Bifrost Field monsters give about the same as Scarabs from the lvl1 tunnel. That's really bad, yo.
