I just finished a few quest and i got some new gear and i can't seem to put it on.  It does say Soul maker on the equips. they are for lvl 23. Though when i went to craft a few soul maker equips noticed that alter equips are light armour and soul makers is cloth armour.  Does that have something to do with it?

 

That really sucks if i can't get new equips until i get to payon and the gear starts switching to 25+

Underlined part is, as you guessed, the issue at hand.

SMs can not equip Light Armor.

Technically it's just misleading, not wrong.

The game script says that the restricted classes that can wear alter armor is: Alter, Crescentia, Soul Maker.
The game script also says that Soul Maker is restricted to only Cloth Armor.

So while one part of it says that SMs can wear Alter armor, the part that says they can only use Cloth Armor conflicts.

It's not just that. The game treats it as if you're not wearing anything at all if your gears are Alter equips. All you see is the cloth sprites being worn, but your Stats aren't affected at all. Don't unequip them after you job change! Or else you won't be wearing anything for a while until you get those Lv25+ equipment.

Well i'm level 30 now so i have all Soul maker equips.  really enjoying soul maker now that I have  figured out some of her skills.

Yep, SoulMakers can't wear Alter equips...but yea, SMs are also enjoyable as hell
