Protective Buckler is a rental kafra item implemented on iRO Classic server. It provides 20% Reduction to all races, it lasts for 2 weeks. However, it is not implemented on renewal, which I believe is a missed opportunity.

As many of you may already know, I livestream ragnarok on a fairly regular basis. Generally this nets me a lot of forum-goers, but usually I get 3-4 people a day from old pservers looking to move over. I also get a few people who are completely new to the game, or returning but unfamiliar with the current state of the game. Consequentially, I get a lot of questions about how to get started.

Usually I assume that anyone looking to play RO for the first time (or return to it) have 0 zeny (literally 0). So I try and scale my advice to something realistic for someone at that poverty level. Weapon, Headgear, armor, garment, and shoes are very well covered by eden gear. However, when it comes to the shield things start to get a little... rough.

My go-to  shield cards endgame are Hodremlin (90m), Ogretooth (50m), Executioner (8m), and Mysteltainn(8m). This of course excludes the cost of a valk shield. And all are -fairly- rare on the market, so even if a newbie could afford them they would need to spend a long time in "market-watch" mode to buy them. Specific racial reduction cards can be a good option, but they are limited in application, and as a low level character you are not leveling on any one race for a prolonged period of time. Shields for beginners can be very hard for me to recommend.

I would recommend implementing the Protective Buckler to the renewal kafra shop. Maybe make it last 1 week instead of 2 and lower the cost 25% relative to the classic server version. It would make introducing people to the game much easier, because I can still recommend the "best" cards but still point out that there is a cheap alternative in the meantime.

Thanks for reading! Have a nice day :)

while i like drawing new players into the game im not a huge fan of selling items needed to start out in the kafra shop... when a game is advertised as free to play and people are suddenly hit with Pay to Win when they just start playing it can be very daunting... so how about this instead... adding this rental item as a part of the free eden gear you get when you first start playing... in fact having all eden gear as a rental type would be ultimately better for the game... bots would soon lose all their gears, players would have to actually get real gears to level as they grow, and low tier items would be worth money again... eden group would just be there to help players get a foot in the door as they it was originally intended....

It's not needed just like it wasn't needed on classic but if you wanna drop 15 bucks and be able to grind to 3rd class in 3 days using rental gear it would be pretty awesome. I think the rentals would be a nice addition.

@facekiller

That would be worse imo.

While that may "increase" the value of low level equipment. That's low level equipment for people who aren't able to afford it. I started a few characters on classic back when it was new only because it had the rental gear.

I think having the rental gear would be a good thing for renewal.

Damn you viri for interrupting me!

I like to try and think of it from a business standpoint. Having good leveling gear available via rental would improve newcomer retention, and since it is low cost (kp wise) it would put some oil in the machine (so to speak).
