So, I used a 5/5 water emblem level 39 wiz and managed to get to 4th round colosseum. Either I was extremely lucky or that emblem has some real uses to it. I managed to place well before with it, but was D/C so I couldn't see how far I made it.

 

Has anybody tried any other weird setups with wiz? I am not a huge fan of the 5/5 fire emblem and was going to look more into water emblem for leveling and then wind emblem at level 50.

You'll be fine in colo even with lvl 1 water. but if it makes you feel ok,  go for it  -> Water for 1-49 and Wind for 50. You can even max 3 seals, just take some points from fireball, ms and fire explosion. Maxing 3 seals is perfect for pvp.

I just got to final round with level 40 wizard. I was scrapping by, but it definitely works a lot better than the fire tree I was using. I have plenty of points into my attacks but i don't use the fire emblem at all, I just take the 10% less damage and treat it like weak PVP armor. It managed to keep me alive against a warrior long enough to snatch a kill on someone else.

try out a 5/5 water emblem wiz.  I will write a longer guide, like the sorcerer one, to explain how it is done. I am probably going to get flamed again but hey its to help those that actually need it. Baiscally you need to spam fire flower and fireball. FIrebolt is good for place holder but you want your status on as much as possible. if you get attacked at all, teleport. Teleport at 3/3 has as 20cd so you can use it whenever you get in danger and having the speed boost afterwards is useful. If you are really really slammed, use your seal explosion and freeze yourself. Nothing can hurt you but you will recover all your health without the use of a potion... then use a potion and teleport if still in danger. WIth that type of durability, it will be hard for you to do die, so you can progress through the rounds with maybe 1 or 2 deaths if done right, which means less necessary kills just to make it.
