I fell into my keyboard for a bit, so Lanie will be helping me! Yay, teamwork!

 

It's that time again! Lanie's original event, Ragnamix, will be hosted by me this weekend! Everyone loved her event, so I thought we could do it again! There were supposed to be announcements in game, but it seems something has happened and they're not showing up. I'm hoping the Saturday announcements will be working.

 

So what is Ragnamix? 

 

Ragnamix is an orginal event created by our VEP and my partner in crime, Lanie. It's a public chat based event, where I will be giving out an anagram riddle.

 

What is an anagram?

 

An anagram is a type of word play where you take the letters of the word or phrase and rearrange them. The purpose of the game is to correctly guess the original word or phrase.

 

When is the next Ragnamix?

 

From 12 AM to 11 PM PDT (PDT = server time) Saturday. I will be announcing the riddle in game every hour, on the hour. 

 

How do I win?

 

After Lanie or I announce the riddle, the first person to whisper me or her (IGN: Zariel or Katrimi) in-game with the correct answer will win! If I announce the riddle, whisper me. If she announces the riddle, whisper her.

 

What is the prize for this Ragnamix?

 

Winners will receive a Premium Dye. They can expect their prize sometime next week.

 

Do I have to be a certain level to participate?

 

No, anyone of any level can play! It doesn't matter what level you are, what channel, or what zone you are in. All that is required is that you are able to view public chat and can whisper me.

 

Will I be able to win more than once?

 

I don't know Lanie's rules on this, but I'm going to say no. I'd like as many different people to win as possible.

 

Are there any rules?

 

Yes, there are a few.

 

1. DO NOT post your answer in public chat. Doing so before I announce the round is over will result in me scrapping the round and starting over. You need to whisper me.

2. Do not curse at me or insult me if you don't like the event, don't like how it's run, or how it's set up. I am still a player. And I will block you if you excessively harass me. If I block you, I won't be able to see your whispers. So please don't make me block you!

3. I am not a GM/CM/Moderator. Don't tell people I am.

 

Will the Ragnamix have a theme?

 

The anagrams will all be Ragnarok Online 2 themed. There will also be an underlying theme. See if you can spot it!

 

I will be be posting the winners throughout the day, as well as the riddle they answered. As the day goes on, the riddles will become progressively harder. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, feel free to post them!

So, I won round 1.
I also won the round at 1pm Server Time, as you will see from the PM I received from the round's Event Host, Katrimi.


Now, the rules posted say the following:

I understand that Zariel (Event Host) does not allow the same person to win multiple times.
If Lanie (aka Katrimi, the 1PM round Event Host) was using these same rules, that should have been posted in this thread as well and/or made clear in world chat. The confusion of this is compounded by the fact that this original rules post say "I don't know Lanie's rules on this" implying that Lanie's rules are not the same as Zariel's.

Despite all that, if I wasn't allowed to win a second time, Lanie/Katrimi should have given the win to the runner-up.
The major problem there is that Lanie/Katrimi did not bother to screenshot the first PMs that came in.

A hugely apparent issue that arises at this point is lack of proof of winner by the event host (which is just another player, even if they are trusted more than other players). If the VEPs aren't providing proof to show who won these events, there's the risk of the event being corrupted by nepotism. I'm not saying that's what happened here, just that proof should be posted by the VEPs (A timestamped screenshot of the first PMs to come in with the correct answer).

Despite anything else that happened, Katrimi specifically PMed me telling me I won even though I was clearly posted as the round 1 winner in this thread long before then. She didn't take screenshots of the first batch of PMs? That's on her, not me.
It's absurd that 3 hours later my win is renegged because the event wasn't being properly hosted in the spirit of fairness:



I was even willing to pass the win to the second person to PM, which is what I consider to be the only fair alternative to me not winning the second time. Katrimi said in world that 7 people had PMed her the right answer (I don't have a screenshot of this statement, unfortunately). I knew 7 people, including myself, that had PMed the correct answer, considering all 7 of us were on Ventrilo together.
I provided these names to Zariel to confirm with Katrimi if she could remember the names.



The entire situation is not a great one, I understand, but if the runner-up isn't going to win, then I should be granted the win based on the fact that Katrimi explicitly told me I won.
If you're going to renegg on your word, it is worth nothing and these events are a sham.

How was there supposed to be proof of the winners without screenshots? I don't know how such a terribly disorganized event could be allowed, considering the possibilities.

 

Not to mention the event assistants not even knowing the rules of the event, thats what is amazing.

Stop trying to play the victim here, it's very unbecoming of you. If you weren't prepared to handle the event, please don't try to undertake such tasks. We're not saying we're not grateful you tried to do an event, but if it's out of your capabilities, please don't proceed with it.

What happened here was an honest, little mis-communication between two VEPs. And while it may be their fault what happened, I can hardly say that it ruined the event (because it didn't). Appreciate that they actually take their own free time to put on events for everyone, and know that we all have hiccups every now and then. Not all of our CM events went off smoothly at the beginning, but hey we learned and no more Monster Invasions in one channel. 

 

With that said, we are ok with giving Esidor one more dye. Have fun!
