... instead of individual arrows and bullets. It feels very backwards to have to buy arrows and bullets individually and then go to NPCs to put them into quivers and cartridges. Why not take out the roundabout middle-man (the players) and simply have weapon shop NPCs sell fully-loaded quivers and cartridges? I don't mind having individual arrows and bullets drop from monsters, but if I'm going to purchase ammo, I'd rather buy in bulk all nicely packaged for me into a lighter load than weigh myself down with unpackaged ammo.

Less trips to the shop NPC = longer time spent actually leveling = better player satisfaction = developer profit.

well the same should go for Kunai... kunai have to be made using items from vendors on either side of the guy who makes kunai... again cut out the middle man and have the guy who sells shuriken and exploding kunai sell regular kunai...

In a nutshell, NPCs should all sell packaged ammo. Otherwise, this is what buying ammo in RO is like at the moment.

Perhaps a more appropriate one would suffice.

Part of the charm of an mmoRPG is that there are a variety of non-player-characters to interact with in a persistent non-instanced world.  Some players also made a business selling ammunition (quivers and bullets) some years ago, but then due to suggestions worded as strident complaints, the game was changed to have more NPCs in various locations sell consumables.  That of course ended the merchanting careers of ammunition merchants except for that lone seller on the street corner south of the Prontera tool shop.    I used to look at that sellers' shop stock with interest when I passed by, wondering about the customer base.  The numbers didn't change much for most things so I can't blame the merchant for closing up shop.   At least that merchant tried.

Apparently, convenience was still not a primary concern of those who used ammunition.  Warping to Payon isn't a big deal to players in general.  Maybe if the Kafra Corporation switched to banker's hours (unless you were VIP), then traveling to Payon would be more troubling.  But of course, there would be priests with payon warps to fix that.

Well I still make good business selling ammunition due to the prices on ragial. It takes a while, but I can easily multiply my profits based on the amount of zeny spent acquiring the materials. If it was a case of making arrows to sell, I can farm loads of materials on my ranger and spam arrow crafting. You know the rest of the process, right?

On-topic, I think it would be a good idea to have NPCs do that. A great idea, even. However, it may depend on the prices, items, etc. The cost of the quivers and cartridges should be the same as it would be to buy the ammo individually and quiver them yourself. e.g. a single normal bullet cartridge should cost around 1000z with a silver arrow quiver costing 2000z. If this would be implemented, unless there is a way that merchant characters get it at the same price as other characters, it can be like the merchants that buy and sell tool shop items with their own goods. Not that I'm complaining. If it is any other type of arrow or bullet than the ones you can buy from an NPC, it would ruin the market for that ammunition. I have a feeling that the NPCs are already at vending 10 and selling the max amount of items allowed for that level, so what would be a more feasible idea would be to have a new NPC next to the weapon dealers that exclusively sell prepackaged quivers based on what kind of arrows the NPCs are selling. I'm just putting it out there, there might be a new archer that needs ammo but can't afford to buy whole quivers, so they should still be able to buy individual arrows.

Shop NPCs will only sell ammo packs that currently exist in-game. They wouldn't be selling packs that don't.

Currently available quivers
Currently available cartridges
Currently available sphere packs

On the pricing issue, well, the reason I'm proposing this is to remove the packing NPCs entirely and just sell the packs directly to the players already filled. The prices would be no more than the price you would pay for 500 ammo individually. No more collecting ammo to take to NPCs to pack.)

As for newer players, I can't see them being able to sustain themselves on less than 500 ammo at any one time. It'd be pretty pointless to have individual ammo be sold alongside packed ones, which is why they should continue to drop individually from monsters if newbies cannot afford the packs. (Pay up to get packs or kill monsters to get individual free ammo.) If you want cheaper alternatives to buying ammo with my proposal, there could be different variations of ammo packs like Full Quivers, Half Quivers, Full Cartridges, Half Cartridges, Full Sphere Packs, and Half Sphere Packs.

Only for arrows sold by NPCs. Most of those quivers can't be made directly from buying from a npc, you need other materials to make them.

Otherwise I agree, you should be able to just buy the packs if the npc also sells the singles.

That sounds fine to me. On that note, how about having arrow recipes craft packs of arrows instead of individual arrows? Most of the recipes pretty much support that.
