Since it was implemented, many have used Trade Chat as an alternative form of Shout, with either useless spamming or holding a conversation unrelated to the Trading, Buying or Selling of items. For those who actually want to use Trade Chat for it's intended use, it's practically impossible to scroll through all the useless spam and jargon.

I think if a prefix after the $ were used, it would eliminate some if not most of the abuse of the Trade chat as another means of shouting unrelated conversation.

Such as:

Selling:
$ S>
$ Selling
$ Willing to Sell
$ WTS>

Buying:
$ B>
$ Buying
$ Willing to Buy
$ WTB>

Trading:
$ T>
$ Trading
$ Willing To Trade
$ WTT>

If the $ is not followed by one of the above predetermined words or phrases above, the text will not show up at all in chat.

I believe it would prevent and eliminate much of the current abuse. What do you guys think?

And what is going to prevent this?

"B> how's everyone today?"
"S> I'm fine!.
"S> This candy is tasty!"
"WTT> Hey could someone buff me?"
"S> I'm selling my girlfriend! ^^"

In every MMO I played and where a zone wide trade chat was available people used it the way you explained. The only way to fix that would be to add a "General Chat" next to trade chat which works the same way as trade chat.

Pickup, the idea is that such prefixes will add another obstacle for spamming. Less people would be inclined to type a prefix just to hold a system wide shout conversation.

The longer the prefix they have to type just to chat in Trade Chat, the more inconvenient it is for people to type a prefix just to say "hi" or whatever random things pop in their heads.

I'm certainly not saying it is an end all, be all fix. There will always be knuckleheads who spam, but it is a start.

Hmmm with this matter is really hard to see a fix to it. People can just copy and paste the "$Willing To Sale" + Hello how was your day and there is a discount on the shoes you drooling on.

Unless they disable the range of the map and prevent those stupid conversation. By the way I dont see any Alliance chat fix? :)

Ever heard of copy/paste?

The only way to fix it is to add a zone wide chat dedicated for spam.

@original post
How would you do to reply to an offer? It would be quite annoying

IMHO they should just add a 15 second delay, it would be enough and probably easy to do since shouts already use a similar system

Of course I know some will copy and paste, I'm not ignorant to believe nobody will do so.

The fact that they would have to copy and paste whatever prefix is proposed inconveniences casual conversation. You don't think copying and pasting all the time just to hold a conversation is annoying in the least? I'm not talking about trying to prevent spammers who purposely spam with the same repeated nonsense, because they'll abuse any system available. I'm looking to rid of casual conversations not related to Trade. I wouldn't mind at least some players who want to global chat to move back to !Shout for their spam since it'll be easier in this system, then at least i'd be able to filter the shouts using the chat options and just see the players who want to sell and buy.

Your suggestion, a zone wide chat dedicated for spam, will only add another avenue for spam, not eliminate it from trade or general chat. You're giving spammers a room to spam, but not preventing them from spamming the other Trade or General chats. You can give them a room to spam, doesn't mean they will use it. How is that the "only fix"?

If you have any better ideas, feel free to share.

It would essentially make Trade Chat a place to advertise your deal, replying would be more convenient by whisper or PM the player instead of inundating Trade chat with negotiation.

Isn't typing ! every time for shout just as annoying as copy/paste?

How do you know that if there was a spam chat that people would still use trade chat for their "spam". People currently use trade chat for spam because there is no place for the casual conversations. Shout isn't good for that purpose due to the 20 second cooldown.

Most people do have brains and they will put their messages to the proper chat room.

I say this is the "only way", because this is the only thing that would fix it permanently, unless you want GM's to be running around and start banning everyone who spams trade chat.

as suggested before i say put a time limit in trade chat like the shout, about a min or so cause there's also no need to spam whatever u sell or buy. Some say its a salestactic, i say its anoying having ur trade chat full of a single person which copy/paste a sentence every 2 sec plus it makes it inposible for others to buy/sell their stuff in this chat.

Maybe most people haven't noticed but every map is divided in certain 'areas'. Shout only works in the area you are in and the ones around it. Trade chat on the other hand covers the whole map.

i want a voting system for kicking ppl.

if a user spams more than lets say 10 lines in one minute to any global chat like shout or trade he qualifies himself for being kicked by the vote of other users.

every user who received the spam on his screen has a chance to vote the person to be kicked. for example by typing /kick user. if more than 10% of all ppl who received the spam voted for the person to get kicked, the user is kicked from the server with all his accounts and is ip-banned for 15 minutes.

this system will IMHO stop all sorts of spamming and will not be easy to abuse because the user has to qualify himself first for being able to become "vote kicked". the 2nd prevention of abuse would be that a certain level of votes is needed to kick a person and a potential abuser would have to control a high number of voters.

It's a great idea but I think it is very hard even not possible to achieve this.

I think its amusing rather than the usual "BUYING UR CATALYSTS HURR DURR."
That bores me after a while.
All of those problems could be solved with an auction house, really.

IDONT WANT TO ADD THEM. besides, a lot of people have add and whispers blocked.
