Hello. I'm a returning player from a long time ago and I've brought some friends who want to play with me but were very confused.

See, the issue is that the client downloaded through steam is completely different to the one from the main website.

The server itself is different, the steam server holding only 800 players or so, the warp client holding over 3k players.

The maps were completely different, as was the interface all the way through.

I'm just wondering what the main differences are and why they are so different?

I see no options on steam to choose classic, so i presume it's not that were trying classic on steam and renewal on the main client.

Also, both servers had 3rd job classes.

What's going on and which server should we be playing on?

don't think this is a bug...as to the two servers i believe the classic loki does not have 3rd job classes in fact. It's more for a retro feel. The other server Chaos is post-renewal which is a huge content patch with many interesting tweaks of the game mechanic. It is also the more populated server with 3-4k people online most of the time.

I tried using the main Loki client to log in using my steam account details and it told me I didn't exist. it seems like the steam server is it's own third thing? I definitely saw third class characters on the steam one as well as the normal client. also, I'm pretty sure both of them were called Chaos in spite of being completely different?

There are two servers - Chaos and Loki. Chaos uses renewal mechanics and has third jobs and 3.8k pop, and Loki uses pre-renewal mechanics and doesn't have third jobs and has ~1k pop.

I can't speak to how steam works (I don't use steam), but there is not a third server.

Do you live in Europe? If so, then you've probably inadvertently downloaded the European version of the RO client instead of the International version. Based on the test I've just performed, it seems that Steam automatically presents the European version of Ragnarök Online's Steam Store page if you live in Europe.

It may be possible to force Steam to download the International version of the client, but I don't know how to do so. Frankly, I think it would be better for you to avoid playing RO through Steam altogether because it adds an extra layer of complexity to a game that already has far too many technical issues.
