Are you -_- kidding me? Have you ever done a raid without PETS? Because it doesn't sound like it. With a proper team you didn't need pets and yeah I've done chaos without pets too BEFORE AoV but it sounds like you didn't.

Just leave the knight thread because you DON'T know what you're talking about.  I hope no one else in this thread replies to your idiotic post anymore since you're bringing nothing to the table and just talking about a class you know jack about.

I can't stand it.

Are you sure you understood what I wrote and that you did a legit raid without pets? Well I did.

Let's make a fictive scenario:

All characters have the same amount of starting health - what was the case pre-AoV - but have different classes. Let's take 6k HP as a base. Further let's assume that a boss AoE does 8k damage.

Warrior:

7.2k HP due to skills

ca. 40% defense rate due to heavy armor

higher dodge & parry rates due to defensive gear & skills

usually expected damage without any skill: 4.8k

using Enduring: 1.6k

Knight:

pretty much the same as the warrior

using Shield Fortress: 0.8k

Assassin:

6k HP

ca. 25% defense rate due to medium armor

usually expected damage without any skill: 6k

using Shadow Armor: 2k

Sorcerer:

6k HP

ca, 15% defense rate due to light armor

The additional

usually expected damage without any skill: 6.8k

No damage protection....

Deluge grants +20% HP if also healed => 7.2k

So, since you Xintello are such a perfect gamer and you did so many raids without pets that I have to praise you for your mastership, just tell us who you would like to protect with shield fortress?

The melees? A.k.a. the Warriors, BMs, Monks or Sins out there? Or better the sorcerers, priests, soulmakers, etc.? Because that was my point.. back then. So I can't await your answer.... isn't too hard, just 2 choices.

The other point I made was about holding aggro:

Just another question to the profi-gamer Xintello: Do pots generate threat? Did they even do before AoV or even before DNA was dropped?

If so,the statement I made also stands. This is the easiest way for any tank to draw attention. And once you had it, a Grand Cross on lvl 1 was usully sufficient to keep it, because the skill produced 4x threat via Aura Armor. If not, the damage on such a pet was high enough that it died shortly thereafter.

The last question to you, Xintello:

So if you can lure and hold the mobs, why do you need to move while casting Grand Cross?

See it's that easy...

And by the way, I started RO2 when there were no pets, I finished Chaos before there was the AoV patch and as far as I can remember, there wasn't a single occurrance where a knight had to use Shield Fortress to protect any melee class.

stronger words i must say, hardlly believe but lets try.

I make a simple and poor math. First, you must know that, estatistics calcs its not that simple, the % procs os masterys can occur often, few or never times. So, to make calc possible, I'm inferring that the chance of occurrence will be the same as described on skills, so 20% its 1 in 5, 15% its 1 in 6~7.

Other simplification, i'm taking all actions with 1s each, any problem here?

....

SB still is good option to make threat generator better, but not to change the diference betwen damage output.

While the knights swords have a value of so low damage compared to other classes, the threat gain will not be able to put us in condition to make equal threat of other tanks.

Sure, this is a simple math, like i said, many factor can be formulate here, so we need praticle tests.

If you do a statistics calculation, you assume the average result and try to filter out all the irrelevant stuff. That's why you can cheat with statistics, cause who knows what's "relevant"...

It all starts with a 3x Bash + 1x Aura Strike combo. Ergo it's a 3x 250% + 1x 240% + 3x 70% = 1200% damage for all or an average of 300% per strike. Let's be generous and say a strike takes up 1.0 sec.

Boomerang has a 20% to trigger, so it does on ervery 5th attack that grants Aura. When triggered, the Shield Boomerang itself produces an Aura.... according to the skill description. A perfect cycle:

Bash +1, Bash +1, Bash +1, Aura Strike, Bash +1, Bash +1, triggers => Shield Boomerang +1, Aura Strike.

So within 7 skill uses, you have:

Damage:

5x Bash = 5x 250%

2x Aura Strike = 2x 240% + 420% Aura Bonus

1x Boomerang = 378%

total = 2528%

average = 316%

Now the Boomerang says it produces +200% threat. Added to the existing +300% due to Aura Armor, I assume a +500% threat bonus (hopefully). Therefore the Boomerang produces x6 threat instead of the usual x4 for the rest:

Threat:

1250% x 4 = 5000

900% x 4 =3600

378% x 6 = 2268

total = 10868

average: 1358.5

For the Shield Cannon, it's basically 3x Bash for the required Auras and the remaining 20sec  cooldown duration is filled up with the standard combo (average 300% per strike).

Damage:

3x Bash = 3x 250%

1x Shield Cannon = 1160%

16x B+AS combo = 16x 300%

total = 6710%

average 335.5%

Threat

total x 4 = 26840

average = 1342

So to me it seems, that the Shield Boomerang + Boomerang Mastery would win, although not in an huge way.... and I haven't included other facts (taken away everything unnecessary or complex.) In this quick statistics, you would still spend more skillpoints for Shield Boomerang 10 and Boomerang Mastery 5...

However, if RO2 developers did it wrong and first added the +200% threat bonus and then taking the x4 bonus due to Aura Armor, it would result in a quite different result...
