Where have all the flowers gone,

this I cannot say, 

here used to sit rose bouquets,

on this holiday-

 

What of all the chocolates,

so tasty and so sweet,

you used to feed them one by one,

now I sit alone to eat-

 

how did all the dazzling gifts,

the diamonds in rich gold,

seem to lose all sparkle,

when the news was told-

 

why did the silks and furs and linens,

so light and warm and soft,

stop giving me their comforts,

as if the trait was lost-

 

my closet now is empty,

of laces and of strings,

these things I use to wear for you,

to catch your eye and things-

 

who finished off the wine,

a bottle I did save,

memento of a time so fine,

empty now beside your grave-

 

the florist has their flower bed-

the chocolatier their treats-

the tailor has needle and thread-

the dealer their luxuries-

the jeweler has their precious stone-

the artisan has their craft-

 

these things so fine when given,

gifts hard to compare,

I have only these thoughts,

to give to you my dear-

 

of all the notes be written and all the letters told,

of all the special messages from envelope unfold,

of all these gifts you gave to me,

in fine ink with quill pen,

a finest gift you gave to me,

one else still better than-

 

your love your heart your passion,

the treasure I hold most dear,

forever and for always,

until I meet you there.
