Because we are currently having maintenance. There will be maintenance every Thursday. There is a pinned thread about this.

Is there anywhere we can check for server status/news? I could be mistaken, but according to the scheduled downtime, shouldn't it be back up by now?

It only started two hours ago, normally you'd give maintenance a 1-2 hour grace period as well so do something else while you wait.
