I just finished patching todays patch, played the game by a bit, and closed the game. When I run the client again, it was getting this patch:

I left it patching for 30 minutes, when I came back, the client is still patching more files from 2011. I closed the client thinking it was just a glitch, and when I ran the client again it is patching the first file in the pic above.

Any suggestions? After an hour of patching it is still getting more 2011 files  :heh:

Closed the client, restarted the computer, ran the client again, and I got failed to connect patch server. Re-ran the client again and it started patching again at the screenshot above.

I give up  :p_sad:

You've unfortunately fallen victim to a bug in the updater that causes it to forget which update it last installed and consequently begin installing updates from the earliest possible point.

If you ever see the updater attempting to install updates from 2011, then you should immediately close it and ask for help in this forum. If you instead allow the updater to install the outdated updates, then you'll be left with a client that doesn't work properly due to it having become an amalgam of current and outdated files. Unfortunately, as you've allowed some of the outdated updates to be installed, you'll have to reinstall the client to return it to a coherent state.

Making the file cpatch.txt read-only isn't an acceptable solution because doing so will prevent the Classic updater from installing any new updates. A better solution is to make daily backups of the files in the client folder named patch.inf and cpatch.inf using backup software such as FBackup, and then restoring the latest backups of the files whenever the problem recurs.

This happened to me as well, but it's patching files from 2013-2-5. Every single time I let the game patch through the files and then reopen my client, it still keeps patching from that date. Is there any other solution to this problem other than reinstalling?

It might be a corrupted patch.inf file and if that's the case, here's how I fixed this problem:

  1. Close all game clients and patch clients and open patch2.txt in the folder where Ragnarok.exe is located. You should get a list of numbers and patch files inside of it e.g. 1795(number) 2011-4-4data_gm.gpf(patch file) or 2508 2014-04-02data_gm_desc_r.gpf.
  2. Find the last entry in this list and select and copy it's number. In my case, I copied 2508 from 2508 2014-04-02data_gm_desc_r.gpf.
  3. Visit this url:http://choobs.org/stuff/patch.php and paste your number in the "patch number" box and click download. Make sure chaos (renewal) is selected first.
  4. Replace your corrupted patch.inf with the one provided by the url.

This should fix your problem if the one causing it is a corrupted patch.inf.

I did this and it did not work. So I just copied a somewhat old (like 4 patches away) game folder and let it patch until it is updated.

Thanks everyone!
