Anyone ever gotten ROSE to work in WINE (Wine Is Not an Emulator)? The app database said it runs pretty fine. I can't test it properly yet though since I seem to be having network issues with it. Other apps like internet explorer can access the netternets just fine, but ROSE cannot connect and patch up. Tried a proxy as well. Although I could get all the way to the logging in character screen before it crashed after I defragged it and ran it on some v492 or v432 or something. Just curious how ROSE holds up in WINE when compared to running it in a VM.

Another player has it running in SolydK Linux with Wine, with much more success as shown in this thread (and the UI graphic issues were later resolved).

I installed it on Linux Mint with Wine and PlayOnLinux, running via Oracle VirtualBox, but the results were unplayable.

Decided to make the jump and set up a second machine to try out Linux Mint natively, with much better results. The game is fully functional with neglible lag from what I've experienced so far.

Configuration:

  • ROSE Online (Version 501)
  • Linux Mint 16 "Petra" (64-bit, Cinnamon)
  • PlayOnLinux 4.2.1
  • Wine 1.4.1
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 (using driver version 331.67)
  • Video quality increased to maximum settings.

Whenever I see threads like this it really makes me want to play with a Linux box again.  :parel: (I have no idea what that face is, but it works?)

FYI

I just tried to run the official installer on Linux Mint 17.3 and also got the Host_AuthFail error, so I can only assume that the newer version of the installer which downloads the latest version of the client is causing the issue. The easiest way to get up and running would be to copy over a prepatched ROSE client from a Windows machine, or use the URL provided below to download a copy of a prepatched client that I regularly update:

  • Download the prepatched client from https://download.ros...atch_latest.zip and extract it anywhere you want.
  • In the extracted client folder, right click RoseOnline.exe > [Open With] > [Wine Windows Program Loader].
  • Click Install for any prerequisites it might ask for (Mono, Gecko, etc) if this is your first time running Wine on that user.
  • Patch and play as normal.

I was able to run ROSE with Wine 1.6.2 (installed via Software Manager) with default settings, and without PlayOnLinux installed using those steps on Linux Mint 17.3 with the latest nvidia graphics drivers.

If Wine isn't your default program to open executable files with and you don't want to have to right click and Open With each time you want to launch the game, you can right click RoseOnline.exe > [Properties] > [Open With], select [Wine Windows Program Loader] and click [Set Default]. After that double clicking RoseOnline.exe will launch the game with Wine.

Wb Arckadia, also, you res'd a 2+ year old dead thread, and this thread [very good info regardless] will prbably get locked for necro-bumping [it's against the rules]

I'm sorry for breaking the rules, we are not going to discuss about them, but I really think that in some cases necro-bumping should be allowed (I'm just adding relevant informations and try to keep them centralized).

Anyway, even if it is locked these informations will be there for future reference and users will be able to find it.

You could request that it be pinned somewhere. That would prevent the lock, and allow it to be found easily.
