This is the dns issue. The long term fix is to edit hosts (there was a thread on this in the past week or two, don't have time to find it myself). See my comments in that thread for more info.

The quick (ie, lasts one starting of RO)

Open IE (must be IE!), go to ftp://patch1.playragnarok.com

mash reload until it finally works every time (at first, it will usually alternate between appearing to work (actually, it's just showing cached copy), and failing, until you finally get a successful DNS resolution, then it'll work every time). Then start RO and it will work.

If it never starts working by mashing reload, post here and me or Axylus can give more debugging steps.

I don't think this problem is related to DNS because the updater doesn't even attempt to connect to the update server via FTP until after it has successfully connected to it via HTTP, which it can't do unless it has resolved the address of the server.

CharlesAlejandro, please test whether you can access the following FTP sites using both Internet Explorer and a different web browser:After you have completed the test, include its results in a reply to this thread. To be clear, I need four pieces of information:
  • Whether you can access the first site using Internet Explorer.
  • Whether you can access the first site using a different web browser.
  • Whether you can access the second site using Internet Explorer.
  • Whether you can access the second site using a different web browser.
