Last week when the Anniversary boxes came, my game started showing the boxes as unknown items with apple icons and some of the items introduced to the game had no descriptions but I wasn't experiencing any crashes so I thought to myself "perhaps the next patch might fix it~", this happened on ALL installations of RO on THREE different computers. Prior to this, my patcher was working just fine.

So I waited.

Came the next maintenance, I eagerly checked to see if my problem was still there and there it was, still happening. This time my game crashes whenever I go visit the Anniversary Quest maps (in addition to the unknown items and apple icons). I've done pretty much everything I could think of: from reinstalling the game from scratch, to trying to patch multiple times from a good backup (dated to the very last patch in May), to trying this workaround, but none of them seemed to fix my problem. Just in case anyone asks, I have been running all the executables as an admin.

Can someone from the technical team, or at least anyone, please help me out with this issue?

Patching always seems to stop after 2540 2014-06-04data_gm_data2.gpf then the play button becomes available.

Additional info: here are the last few lines from my patch2 file:

Unfortunately, the cause of the problem whereby the updater/patcher repeatedly reinstalls recent updates (not updates from 2011) is currently unknown; however, your description of the problem suggests it may be caused by a bug in the updater/patcher that causes it to fail to download certain updates. If this is the case, then you should be able to work around the problem by manually downloading the affected updates.

Try the following:

Warning: Don't follow these instructions if you last updated your client before 2014/6/4 because doing so will cause your client to skip installing one or more updates.
  • Download and then extract this file.
  • Move the files contained in the extracted folder into your IRO client installation folder.
  • Close any and all open clients.
  • Download this file.
  • Navigate to the IRO client installation folder in File Explorer/Windows Explorer.
  • Replace the file patch.inf with the version you downloaded in step 2.
  • Open the Renewal client.
Please state whether or not this resolves the problem for the benefit of others. :)

The "unknown item" problem is a separate one and was resolved by yesterday's update.

I also have similar problems, only in my case after the maintenance. my patcher couldn't properly get the 2540 2014-06-04data_gm_data2.gpf patchBefore the maintenance the patcher was working perfectly fine. Now everytime i try to repatch it, the patch would be nearly completed and then it failed when it was near to completed. I once tried reinstalling it then the same problem occurs, but the play button appears. I try launching it then i passed all the way through to the character selection interface. The minute i chose a character, a warning window pops up about the sprite file with other some markings and then i got sent back to windows,

I've pretty much tried everything like running all executebles as admin, reinstall, including the above method, it still didn't work. Could use a little help here.

Hi, I am mobile right now so I cannot quote posts.

Sadly, the workaround suggested by Axylus does not work. I am having the same problem as Raz, whereby it stops downloading data a few kb(?) from completing the data2.gpf file, stops responding/downloading for a bit then the play button appears.

If you manually download the file 2014-06-04data_gm_data2.gpf (which I included in the Zip archive that my previous post links to) and put it in the same folder as the file Ragnarok.exe, then the updater/patcher should source the local copy of the file instead of the remote copy on the update server. I don't understand why this isn't the case for all of you.

Do any of you have any download managers installed that integrate with Internet Explorer? If so, try configuring them to not integrate with Internet Explorer.

If someone who is experiencing this problem wants me to try to find a solution to it via TeamViewer, then send me a private message.

Right, i managed to make the game work after reinstalling it a few times. But then, it seems that one of my characters that's on the savages map (A priest) is stuck there because of a sprite file problem and i cant access that character or move it at all. And also I don't have any download managers.

Whoops, I didn't know that I could quote on mobile. Nice to know. :)

I do not have any download managers installed, so I don't think that is my problem.

Today is my day off from work, I will try doing the steps again on a different installation in a different PC and see how it goes. I'll post any updates here.

Update: the fix worked on my other computers but not my laptop. I can live with that! :3 Thanks for the help!

The cause of your problem is probably Gravity's DNS servers failing to respond to your queries due to the servers being faulty. You can work around the problem by simply repeatedly opening and closing the updater/patcher until it succeeds in connecting to the update server.

By the way, this problem is completely unrelated to the topic of this thread. :P
