I play on a HP Envy17

AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5800 Series (5850 to be exact, but for some reason it doesn't say so)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Intel Core i7 CPU  Q720 @1.60Ghz
6 gigs memory
Directx 11

My computer can run pretty much most modern games on medium settings with decent FPS, no problem there. However when I play RO, funny stuff happens...

one of these scenarios occur anywhere between 5 min of gameplay or several hours

  • Most frequent occurance, Computer screen blinks, RO window is black, mouse cursor moves outside of the RO application. Screen blinks black again and a message says "Display driver has stopped working and has been recovered"

  • Happens sometimes, Computer freezes totally on the spot, with RO window freezing aswell, only option left for me is a hard reboot.

  • Worst case scenario but rarely happens, the computer BSODs something about atikmpag.sys, not sure if it's the same message every BSOD.

Problem has persisted even though I have been struggling with it for several months, and tried fixing it

I have tried:

  • Updated ATI drivers tot he latest (v14.100.0.0)
  • Downgraded ATI drivers
  • Turned of UAC
  • Turned off Aero
  • Installed too "C:\" & "C:\Program Files (x86)"
  • Ran in Compatible mode with Windows XP Service pack 3
  • Given Admin rights
  • Reinstalled Windows
  • Also done a GPU stress test with FurMark, no instability issue
  • Also ran the Windows Memory Test, 100% passed

Finally I thought graphics card was dying or some other Hardware problem so I turned it in where I bought it and asked for a check-up and repair.
The fans were replaced, new HDD, Windows reinstalled, battery replaced and the whole system airdusted. Got it back on friday last week. FIRST THING I DID.. Install Ragnarok Online in "C:\" > Run Application in XP SP3 Compatible Mode > Run as admin. Problem still persists.

Man I just want to play this game, but it's like a higherpower doesn't want me too... really hope somewhere can help me, I know this has been a common problem before. I've read thread after thread about people with similiar symptoms, tried all of the suggested solutions but still nothing...

If your GPU driver is crashing, then there is a serious problem with the driver, your hardware, or Windows. The fault for a driver crashing doesn't lie with the application that triggers the crash because a driver should never crash, even if an application instructs it to perform an obscure or illegal operation. In other words, tinkering with the IRO client is a complete waste of time.

As the cause of your problem pertains to your GPU rather than the IRO client, I think it's unlikely you'll find a solution to it in this forum. I did a little research on your problem using Google, but, unsurprisingly, I didn't discover any definitive solutions, as is almost always the case with any problem that occurs on Windows. <_<
