The outrageous is the reasonable, if introduced politely. -Charles Fort 1919
Back when I was a kid, I was a huge fan of occult books. I would rent or just sit in a library and read the Time Life books on unexplained phenomena like UFOs, the Bermuda Triangle and all sorts of spooky subjects. Though I haven't been a believer of the paranormal since the days of staying up late to watch the X-Files it has been interested to re-rent those old books and see what my younger self was so enamored of.
Up until now I had only heard of but never knew much about the modern father of paranormal study: Charles Fort. A journalist who lived in the early 20th century, he was responsible for researching and publishing books about the occult. He was also one of the early proponents of the theory of vanished people being the responsibility of beings from another planet.
Before his passing in the 30s, he had built up a cult following of other artists and authors interested in the unknown. This movement of sorts would become known as the Forteans. His UK fans would found a magazine that survives to this day: The Fortean Times
And because it's sort of relevant and I'm re-watching the X-Files:
