I told Oda to treat those entries as one entire caption and if he was going to pick them to treat them as such. I felt that was better than telling everyone to change what they wrote. After that it was out of my hands.

 

Still not very fair though. The submissions with like 20 different captions obviously took more effort than a one liner and I'm sure the judge took that into consideration, considering every single winner had more than one caption.

I made it clear to him that it should be treated all as one caption that goes together, but if he had simply picked based on length, I think the honorable mentions would be just as long.

 

It was a simple and easy contest and I'm sorry if you felt it was unfair, but I have absolutely no say in who gets picked and if I hold another CC contest it will be a lot stricter, for sure. This is a learning process for me unfortunately

Correction: It should have been a simple and easy contest, that's why they call them "captions," and not "novellas," but I think you got bullied into changing the rules when you should have just disqualified the people who broke the rules, which I thought you did a pretty good job of explaining originally.

Judging by what Oda wrote to me, he picked yours based on the main quote so I don't think it was because of your side quotes.

I think it's against the spirit of a true caption contest. Like if you submitted that to a magazine that has a caption contest it would be instantly disqualified as multiple submissions.

I actually suggested she rename it that on like the first or second page of this thread, when it first became clear that kids nowadays dont understand what captions are

The list I gave you included short descriptions of the most memorable part of the entry. My choice was still based on the entirety of the entry.
