here is my entry

I saved in jpeg, because in png. or psd. format i could not save the 1024x768 size under 500kb, it always counted 600kb and more.(even when i flattened all the layers)

 

this one is around 200kb, so its not heavy at all and yet the quality is still here. some of us posted in jpeg like this on the valentine event too so why not now?

 

oh well.. here goes nothing

which program are you using for drawing?

i dont know how you can do it in sai, but in photoshop you can go to file- save for web and devices.

As I already told, the filesize for PNG files can't be really lowered.

Only way to lower the filesize for a PNGs is:

Save the file with indexed colors instead of RGB colors, but then the numbers of colors will be reduced to a maximum of 256 different colors.

 

If you save for the web you'll get compressed JPG files, which are not suitable for the contest or GIFs (which also only support a maximum of 256 colors) and are also not suitable.

so only 8bit png is accepted.

you could've said its ONLY accepted  this way, it would avoid all the confusion on this thread, as we were all trying to find any and every way possible to keep the quality of the image intact.

I don't know if ShazamO didn't get you right this day.

I was also a bit confused by his statement.

 

As written in the "rules", only PNG or PSD is accepted with a picture size of 1024 x 768 and a filesize under 500kb.

 

So, 24/32-bit RGB PNG are accepted, and it seems 8-bit PNG are accepted.

 

Sadly, I only can tell you what I know and what I interpret the statements in the first post, because I sadly have no "access" to any information since ShazamO is no longer working as CM as you really already know.

 

If I get other informations, I'll inform you immediately.

But I fear, I won't get any until the ending date.

Good link to try it. But if you use many colors you may see a quality loss in quantization and color-reducing.

 

 

 

Because the number of colors is reduced, 24-bit PNG files can be converted to much smaller 8-bit indexed color images.

 

But it's always worth it to give it a try.

As I stated before, I am also confused by this rules and it does not correspond to what I know about the Dragon Saga client.

But I can only tell you what the "rules" say. I don't know why this rules are made that way and I stopped thinking about that, because at the moment I have noone who I could poke about that, sadly. 

So my only possiblity is to always remind you about the requirements, that were given to all of us.

No the game loading screens are made in a DirectX specific block compressed full RGB color format.
