1926.png    Ragnarok Pumpkin CarvingJakk.png

Please read everything if you want a good chance to win!

There will be three categories of carving for this contest.

1) Carving a real/craft pumpkin (can be lit or unlit)

Example
2) Drawing a carving on a paper pumpkin

(2D - flat drawing on paper only - no papercrafts or 3d paper models)

You must draw the pumpkin yourself.
3) Drawing a carving on a digital pumpkin

(2D/3D/pixel/anything goes)

You must draw the pumpkin yourself.

The goal for categories 2 & 3 is to emulate a real pumpkin carving, not make a carving stencil for a real pumpkin!

Judging will be weighted on the carving itself. This goes for all 3 categories. A drawing of a carving that emulates a pumpkin will do better than just drawing a Baphomet onto a pumpkin. Work with light/dark elements and make a cool "carving!" Little weight will be put on the pumpkin drawing.

Each category will have two winners.

All entries will be hidden until the contest is over.

Categories will remain separate.

Carving a pumpkin means you will only be competing with other real carvings NOT any paper pumpkins or digital pumpkins.

Rules

Do not post your entry.

All submissions will be sent here.
You must include your forum name in case I need to contact you.

Upload all your images and send me your links through the survey.

This is to address concerns about copying and such.

I will show all of the entries once the due date passes.

Must be a Ragnarok related carving.

Must be drawn/carved for this contest - nothing old.

Please include step-by-step pictures, even for the digital category.

I would like to see some changes as you go along drawing to prevent plagiarism or people faking their work.

One pumpkin entry per person. This applies to all 3 categories at once.

If you submit a real pumpkin carving, you can NOT submit a 2D pumpkin carving drawing or a digital drawing.

The same applies if you enter any other category.

Prizes

The 6 winners may choose between 5328.pngCostume Evil Wing Ears or 5793.pngLife Ribbons.

Both are account bound, I believe. The EWE is tradable and the ribbons are bound. The EWE might be bound again @_@

Ends November 1st at 11:59 PM PST. Winners will be picked the following Tiki Tuesday by Oda.
Please PM or post about any concerns/problems you have with the contest and I will do my best to address them.

If you need an example of pumpkin carvings, use google!

Here is a lovely one from the internet:

I plan (emphasis on plan) on making a drawing carving. Can I just attach a video of me drawing it? Drawing and stopping to take pictures might be too time-consuming. Mehehehe :heh:

If you plan to draw a digital pumpkin, you could use autoscreenshot to take pictures every few minutes. This is what we use for our ludum dare timelapses: http://theuds.com/au...hot.php?lang=EN :p_smile:

I'm not a big fan of the hidden entries.

I don't want to put all that effort in and then not even be able to show it off.

Was this to avoid what happened in the umbrella contest?

(In my opinion, when the Edgga entry was submitted, the succeeding entries leveled up a notch. :heh:)

There's no mention in the OP whether they need to be RO-related or not, so, they gotta be RO-related or not?

Honestly I think your hidden entry idea is dissuading people from entering.

If a bunch of people told me they weren't entering because of it I'd probably remove it as a thing next contest :ok:

i might do a drawing at some point but i dont know about the rules for this contest... the option to do a paper drawing, computer drawing, or real carving and then keeping the entries hidden doesnt seem very fair or even having realistic expectations... why bother carving a pumpkin if somebody may enter a drawing and win.. why spend time drawing a picture somebody can just do one on the computer... look at the current halloween loading screen contest and you can see why people may not be so eager to enter...

The drawing and real-pumpkin carving categories are separate, as I understand it. You can submit a drawing to win the Drawing category, but then you wouldn't be able to submit a carved one. Both categories would be judged separately and have their own bracket of winners. There seems to be three categories *_*. Paper, Digital, and actual Pumpkin! As for your other concerns, I feel like you missed the point of what contests should be. I don't think digital art is inherently superior to traditional media(both can take hours upon hours of effort, and training), but if someone were to submit a spectacularly drawn digital pumpkin carving, then of course it would win over other entries. That's the whole point of contests!

@hoikarnage Sapphic said all of the entries would be shown at the end, so it's not like your work will be doomed to obscurity!  :ok:

I tried carving a pumpkin last year and failed marvelously, but will try again this year! with better tools than some plastic scrapers and butter knives.

edit: oops it looks like I didn't read the rules correctly.

The categories are separate - they will be judged separately and have separate winners. So if you enter a traditional drawing, you will be only be competing against other traditional drawings. I tried to make that as clear as possible.

*Added the rule that all entries must be made for this contest. Forgot to do so earlier, my apologies.

I don't think hidden entries is really that much of a deal in terms of it being a contest. I don't think other contests let you see what the competition is doing most of the time.

It's not that it's a big deal, it's just that by the time the contest ends, not many people will care anymore, so less people will see the artwork.

And lets say you get 50 entries, are you going to be bothered to post them all, or only the winners?

Muajajajajajajajajajajaja! even though these contests are not something i expect to win, i'm still glad to have a project to do with my kids.

I think for the hidden part... i like that idea for the actual carving part more than the drawing ones. I know i love of people are especially protective of the final work when it comes to carving... but in drawing, people love to show their work. I think that you should end the contest, show the work and then announce the winner the next day(or a couple days after that). that way people have time to look and enjoy the comments to their work~ i think people like seeing a popular vote going on, just because it makes them feel appreciated.

Anyhow, that is just an option if you to choose to hide the work again. It's a clearly smart idea, but it needs fine tuning with the community.

Anywhoze~ Good luck with your choice of weapons and carve safe~

Of course I will post them all ! That is my job as a host.

Also I did time the contest so there was a few days to look at all the entries before judging begins.
