Not sure if it has to do my internet connection or something along those lines, but there were several times in which I was disconnected out of nowhere when using fly wings in a map with a mercenary, and when I logged back in, it said that the contract had expired.

It has happened right after I clicked on the mercenary scroll, so it definitely wasn't because of the duration.

 

Anyone has a hypothesis/explanation?

this happens under adverse network conditions when you teleport while the merc is sending commands. You can put it into standby before winging. Lowerping/WTFast may or may not help.
