Go to your Ragnarok folder, delete patch.inf and patch2.txt.

Download this click me! copy and paste. It will patch again (from April 1, 2015)

Once you're done and it has successfully patched, copy paste the patch.inf either on your desktop or any other folder for quick access. Repeat this process everytime they release new patches. So whenever your client decides to download an older patch, just copy paste this new patch.inf into your RO directory and the issue should fix itself.

It's apparently caused when the updater requests a copy of the file patch2.txt from the server and erroneous data is returned. This can happen, for example, when you're using a public Internet connection that uses a captive portal.

I've been researching the problem and developed what I believe is a simple and clean solution that doesn't leave your client installation in an inconsistent state:

Note: You should only complete the following procedure if you cancelled the update process before all of the available updates (including the outdated ones) were installed. If you didn't cancel the update process, then you should instead reinstall the client.
  • Download the following file1: IRO client (2015-04-16).7z
  • Download and then install 7-Zip.
  • Open the file you downloaded in step 1 in 7-Zip.
  • Press F5.
  • Specify the location of your IRO client installation folder2 and then press enter. Choose to replace all of the existing files.
1. This 7-Zip archive contains a current copy of all of the files that are both necessary for the client to function properly and can potentially be modified before the completion of the update process.

2. The client installation folder is the folder that contains the file Ragnarok.exe. Its default location is C:\Gravity\Ragnarok Online.

thanks for the detailed explanation. since I only ever log into the game from home, and not via work or an internet café, hopefully the odds of me encountering this will be very low.
