lets say my def is 100 (soft) + 200 (hard) and i have 50% demi human reduction. if a player in pvp using combat knife to attack me that pierces def of demi human, what will happen?
is my soft def will be pierced? is my hard def will be pierced? is it bypassing the demi human reduction i have?
and how about partial piercing like AB skills that granting 25% def piercing? what def are affected?

the way i understood those stuff, usually if it says pierce defense of (put monster race here) it ignores both soft and hard def reductions, unless it says ignores defense to (insert monster race) by (number)% it reduces the soft and hard def numbers by that amount, i just dunno where it would come in in their calculations (if it comes first before computing damage, after applying reductions etc.)

after checking some stuff, if it says ignores def by % it reduces Hard Def by that much %

(the AB's Expiatio falls unto this as well but its not restricted to race)

 

as for pierce defense of (race) (Combat Knife) it completely ignores both soft and hard def completely.

i dunno if Cranial Shields reduce the damage from it, but probably yes since the damage calculations come in before adding those reduce damage cards.

I think is just hard def, but we are talking 10% reduction from defence so CK is rather pointless.

Depends on the DEF; if you're running around with 700 DEF with assumptio like I do all the time, that's like 57% reduction from DEF.

you lost the point. i mean if someone using CK to atk me what will happen? since CK ignores demi human def completely. i dont use CK to defend, it is enemy use CK to attack me.

Fuyu I believe what was said earlier is correct, it pierces the 'hard' def, the def from gear.

so we still have soft def and racial reduction unharmed if the pierce is partial. but if it is complete pierce, it affects both soft and hard. good to know. thanks.

Racial reductions CAN'T be bypassed, only case is if the skill or part of it ignores reductions of these type( EQ for example), defense bypass acts over hard defense, your % defense. same works with mdef bypass. U will still have the soft def/mdef, wich is only usefull on low dmg hits, against a high dmg they will barelly change anything.

instead of wearing lucky box gear, try wearing gear from pve content.  gray set from ghost palace offers good defense, grab a few pieces from that set, ebone armor, and throw in a bradium shield and you can hit like 350 hard def easy.  Assumptio doubles that to 700.  Lets also not forget about angelus which i believe stacks additively with assumptio.  Doesn't show in the stats menu obviously because nothing important ever shows in the stats menu.

assumptio doubles your def so it's not hard to get 700. Have fun getting hit from stuff that increases damage with higher def.

Expiatio pierces hard defense just so you know. Why AB's do not pick it up is because...............................................(insert non-sexual reference), thats why.

I wear +12 gears and a bryn, so 300~350 def is normal for me. With assumptio that's 600~700. My bishops usually tank better than most mounted characters :>

I'd also rather tank than some rg or rk that takes 10x the damage I do and doesn't get the heal bonus I do on myself with ygg crown.

just wondering, ( this is somewhat unrelated to the topic, but since we are talking about def and redux here, might as well ask it  :s), from irowiki page : Frenzy reduce all def to 0, but how about redux that you get from card? i am talking about racial redux, elemental table, stuff like that :3

No to the racial and elemental, but anything that awards Hard DEF and Hard MDEF such as Comodo card count towards the reductions to 0.
