So I want to start playing RO2 again but the last patch seems to have changed the meta but I can't really find how the meta has changed. Don't want to start a new class and found out that it's underpowered now. So any help? Especially the meta on DPS classes.

No more wasting time on raids and dungeons as we are now required to waste times on fields for MPs. We need them to level up our Master Level. And that means the more DPS your character made the better, however, that doesn't mean DPS class can DPS more than other roles class in current meta.

Every classes has their own usefulness in PVE so you can continue with your current one if you're only here for the monsters.

PVP on the other hand is a different story. Popular classes right now are Wizard, Rogue, Ranger, Sorcerer, Beastmaster and Crecentia because they're easy to be killed by other classes.

Way to skip over original question guys ._.

Telovi is right about it being a grind heavy endgame. As such, in my opinion, the meta for DPS is damage-over-time pets for their defense ignoring properties. More on which pets to get for damage later on. I'm going to focus more on PVE grinding than 'raids' so I'm going to talk about the best pet users.

Crecentia - Highest pet damage potential. Also has other defense ignoring DoT skills. Easy to get into parties if you have the pets.

Soulmaker - Relatively high pet damage due to extra Attack Power coming from STR that can randomly come from hones and accessories. They're more of a healer focused role though, but since pets are just a one button click, it doesn't matter. Easy time finding parties. Easy to reach max Vigor to summon several pets at once.
Wizard - Slightly lower pet damage than Cres, but still great Magic stat due to Fire Emblem and Dragonology. Solid AOE damage which is helpful for grinding too. Pure attacker.
Sorcerer - Has the same potential as a wizard honestly, but they rarely pick up Fire Emblem so less damage in that sense. They can alternate from a damage pet for Embus (freeze pet) to power up their AOE damage. This flexibility allows the party to have a secondary pet damage dealer because damage-over-time pets can't be stacked.

Priest - The days of playing pure support have faded away. Now known more for their killing potential in Colosseum. They are viable as DPS due to their defense ignoring skills and decent Magic stat for pets. There's a chance-based skill they have (that I can't quite remember the name) that boosts their Attack and Magic by 25% for a short duration which gives them good pet damage too.

-You're going to need to farm 99 pets to lower your pet summon cooldown, and a pet of level 2 or higher is preferred, and a level 4 pet gets you into all parties.

-Having a high vigor also lets you summon more pets dealing more damage.
-Pet damage is based on Attack and Magic stats, regardless of your class
-Damage over time pets of the same category cannot be stacked with each other, so pray you don't have conflicting pets with other players.
-Leveling up damage/heal pets increases their damage/heal, but leveling up buff pets do not increase their buffs. Leveling up pets also increases their duration slightly.

-Stars/grades also affect damage. Roughly speaking, a 2 star level 4 pet = a 3 star level 3 pet = a 4 star level 2 pet in damage.

The damage pets you'll want to focus on are listed below (best to grab just 1 from each category. Focus on leveling up your pet in one category until you have 60%+ Vigor before focusing on another category).
1. Shock pets - Mermaid (popular), Chonchon (weaker, easier to level up), RSX (stronger but harder to level up).
2. Ignite pets - Imp (popular), Elporing (weaker, easier to level up), Garbong (stronger, but harder to level up).
3. Normal Damage AOE pets (these don't ignore defense, but are relatively helpful because their damage can stack with pets in the same category): Vador (circle AOE around itself), Moonlight Flower (cone AOE in front of her)

There's other important things when it comes to DPS roles in the current meta, but that'd take to much time to explain. Pets are just the most significant in my opinion. Other DPS classes are viable too, but for other reasons that I'm to lazy to cover. In the end, you really should just play whatever appeals to you and make the best out of it instead of going standard cookie-cutter.

BMs have a huge HP pool and lots of survivabilty skills, of course it can be killed in PVP like any other class that gets hit by boomerang crit or int warrior rage strike crit.Good pvp BMs could tank 3-4 people without too much trouble, I find it hard to believe this has changed ever since I stopped playing RO2. I'm very surprised if thats true.

About the main question of the topic, I don't really have an answer to give. I remember penetration is an important stat to stack up to a certain level to grind DW and bosses. I let others reply in more detail about current "meta" in PVE for DPS class...

The reason I didn't mention Penetration is not everyone can amass the amounts that give it a noticeable impact. Penetration is definitely a killer in PVP, equaling a free Power rune [65] to [100] quite easily for Assassins, but in PVE it's quite lackluster. In PVE, the monsters have too high defense to be impacted by Penetration, unless you're raiding and the boss is under the effects of Strike a Vital Point for the whole time.

I tend to disagree, I personally have noticed DPS difference with and without penetration in DW mobs but what do I know? I haven't done any tests to confirm this.

But I can add general lines to how optimize your DPS: penetration, high crit rate, high vigor for lower cooldowns, Lv4 pets. The best damage dealers when I made a pause to the game were Crecentias due to their pets and debuffs and Assassins because of their high crit and penetration. Priests can also be effective in dealing damage with their pets and dots.

I based that on 1v1 situation and the favorite "kill or be killed" mentality among carnivores nowdays. Beastmaster lacks massive burst damages to compensate for the damages they've suffered through.

Maybe in the long run in 1v1 Beastmasters lose most of their fights but stating they are easy to be killed is not accurate and quite the opposite. To compare rangers, wizards, sorcerers etc. (cloth classes) with a tanker is like saying apples, oranges, peaches (fruits) and fish are the same when it comes to how easily a class can be killed. Besides, I've been taken down by more than 60% of my HP with their belly jump AOE crush and I play a warrior. They might not 1shot-overkill someone like some other classes do but they definitely do have a good damage burst. :)

The thing it's though, I believe Beastmaster will win on a long game, if enough times are bought and enough misses are made by opponent. Against the better half four melees that is, because the class has no leverage over the better two rangeds, especially when the player know how it should be done.
