Talk to the Zonda NPC to get started

Instance rules: Can be done once per day

If 20 monsters reach your starting point, you lose and get kicked out. 

When your mercenaries reach the monster starting point, they do a skill and die. Treasure chests with useful items will spawn when enough Mercenaries make it to the enemy spawn.

I did not understand what I have to do this quest. I went to and died.

You kill monsters. All while your mercenaries run to the other end. After 10 mercenaries run there,  you get some treasure chests that you break which give you various +6 stat foods (vit, dex, int, agi) and also have a lower chance to drop Yggdrasil Berries or 1 of 3 types of malangdo costume enchant stones (headgear -- hi, mid, lo). The enchant stones give +50 max hp, +10 max sp, or +1 crit.  

 

Having done 100 waves, I got about 20 of each food, 12 ygg berries, and 6 total stones (3 hp, 1 sp, 2 crit). 

 

I do not know how long it goes, and at most I got 5 treasure chests spawning at once. If a mercenary breaks the chest, you get nothing. 

 

It is an extremely easy way to make some zenny for new players -- the monsters all have between 10k and 20k hp, and do not drop anything. The food items can be sold for 10k each (or 12.4k over charge) to NPCs. The Ygg berries can be vended, and I'm assuming someone somewhere will be willing to enchant their costumes with these free but inferior enchantment stones.

Forest is sort of like a "proof of concept" test for the wave mode system. There isn't much reason to use it. It would be interesting to request a custom version of a wave mode dungeon to teach players how WoE works, for example.
