It simply means you failed on your first and second chance. 

 

The npc won't ask you if you want to try again after you failed the first time. If you failed on your 1st attempt, the npc will automatically retry it for you. If it still fails, then your gear will break.

that would be stupid if it asked you if you wanted the second try without breaking. Then you'd literally have a 100% success rate by canceling and doing it again and again until it succeeds.

For me, why no retry thought it's first attemp

so... i have like 8 unwanted shoes. I used normal elus, which resulted 2 broke while attempting +5, the rest broke while attempting +6

I upgraded my +7 ancient shadow amor and it broke, thoguhtit was on the first try but it was destroyed. I thought it's still there because the event shadow refine. What's wrong guys?

 

It's basically rolling dice twice every time you attempt to upgrade.

If your roll fail both times, it'll still break.

i mean, breaking 4 shadow gears of 8, at +5 using EElus?

Probably it's not activated in Thor. I broke mine too w/o 2nd chance.

tested this the other day w/ my one and only hard armor + champion shoes since HP increase is kinda low at +4 and shoes broke going to +4 and armor went to +7 using normal elu

using normal elus on thor equates to no +7 out of 15 , seriously. money sink guaranteed.

but i do think im not the only one from thor who was hopeful for the refine event, but ended up getting nothing from my month's pay cheque.

 

this is an absurd negligence from the CM's. im sorry but it's the truth.

it's activated in thor. tested it myself.

 

succeeded in +5 Kingbird weapon using e.ori on 1st attempt (fault was, thought it was like enriched hammer/mrs hammer and didn't bother to close the dialogue window and continued going to +6, broke it without seeing any event attempt)

 

2nd try with +4 Ancient Armor using normal elu exiting everytime it finished one upgrade, +5:1st attempt:success, +6:1st attempt:success,  +7:2nd attempt:sucess.

This event was announced after the server restarted a few minutes last time. If someone log in soon, they probably saw the announcement.
