ropd needs to be taken offline, it is that simple. to much information to the public.

It won't save the people who keep falling for this blatant scam. People need to quit being greedy and thinking they really are going to be made a GM out of thin air or get free upgrades/items from someone they hardly know that involves their account information or downloading something on skype, as that is what it comes down to after this long.

The problem part lays in that there's no actual guide on how to recognise a GM. I know the global announcements go up about the scam but they are pretty easy to work around on the scammer's part. (it says nothing about teamviewer) and the forum thread about scams is where?

 

The announcement would be better off as "GMs are not recruited from the playerbase! Anyone offering this is attempting a scam, do not share your infomation or install any programs from someone claiming to be staff."

 

on a side note; this guy also tries to get names to attack off the wp stream. It's sad.

Also there are kids playing RO that aren't as well-versed in the internet, and therefore fall for the scams other people think are obvious. There should be something announced like Xellie said, which seems to cover most of the bases.

It's not victim blaming, it's the reality of the problem because it is warned on Renewal & this is from there. Considering I've already stated in other threads that the language gap is an issue, I don't think I really need to explain beyond that. lol

 

 

It spams in game all day long. Edit; it shouldn't need to state how to identify a GM when it clearly states they won't ask for the information or use such a program. If people are ignoring that, it is their own fault?

 

These threads have come up a lot as well.

Secondly : Some people don't even know WHAT a GM is. I know I didn't for years when I started playing RO. I can only imagine how confusing it is for people from "other" servers where GMs ARE  recruited from within the community. There's way too much expectation of knowledge on newbies.... knowledge which there's no real way to gain except through experience. why should there NOT be a thing about what a GM is, ho to identify them? The more I think about it the more nobrainer it seems that such a thing should exist.

 

Lastly, I don't know how anyone would equate "Item Scams" with being asked to be a GM. There is no "item scam" about it (apart from when your acc gets cleaned out afterward) - it's social engineering/phishing. Maybe people are savvy enough to not have their items stolen in a "let me try on your hat" trade - but if they don't know that iRO doesn't recruit from the playerbase like their previous server then...?

It's not really a bad idea.

 

iRO has a lot of bad press for a -_-ty community atm and not everyone is infallible 100% of the time. They're probably really upset for being caught out like that and the community are like HAHAAHA UR OWN FAULT.

I'm not saying they're not stupid for falling for it, i'm just saying I don't think the community should be allowed to humilate the users (who may or may not be adequetly armed anyway) publically making them feel even worse.

 

tldr; yous all a bunch of systematic friends, no wonder nobody likes being on these forums. There's no reason to respond to someone who was hacked / feel for a scam with anything other than education/how to fix it. They probably already feel stupid/bad enough, they don't really need your help in wanting to quit the game.

I was under the understanding that ragial had bots wandering round key areas collecting the info from vendors. I don't see how this applies to ROPD though. Certainly not with the wording used on their site.

Whatever be the case, the guys a real amateur. If he's in game he should also see the messages and realize it's going to be hard  to convince people he is a GM. The excuse he gave me was "GMS don't use teamviewer or skype, I am a CM." yadayadayada.
