Handing those out as a general participation prize isn't a good idea, but as a prize to the top 3 winning teams it's actually appropriate. It's how it was done in the past, it's an "USRC headgear prize" after all.

 

As of recently though Oda has been awarding them to community event volunteers for hosting events. Why not add it as a prize?

 

Agreed. It is fitting that the USRC headgears be awarded in place of the easily obtainable upgrades for such a tournament.

Prizes will be announced soon, since we will be doing these more than once per year we will need to adjust what kind of prizes are available.

Precedents mean a lot, give oversized rewards now and further down the line there will undoubtedly be some people saying "rewards were better last time" when they are scaled down to accomodate frequency. Best to structure everything appropriately now so as to avoid problems further on.

Never saw this, so if it's the way things are going to be, the +12 upgrades would be fine.

Considering this, people asking for headgears that are worth billions in a tournament where there's hardly any competition is a bit ridiculous.

The biggest issue here is honestly that the participation prize is worth a bit too much, the Champion's helm from the past would be a very nice participation prize.

I think the participation prizes being rare hats is just to entice people to join and bring in more competition, this tournament was pretty sad imo, need more people to participate.

They are both events and Oda has been taking into careful consideration what the prizes are.
Have you noticed that it's only people form your guild that are here making a huge deal out of this?
Going off what you said, someone in your guild received blue ribbons from a coloring contest a while ago before Oda realized just how much some of these hats actually sell for.
It's fine if prizes are account bound, but otherwise, nothing worth billions should be given out for something like this or for forum events unless it's something monumental.

We're looking at having another Tournament towards the beginning of next year (since December is pretty busy already) so we'll have a thread up for suggestions and feedback on how you'd like to see the next Renewal (or Classic!) tournament to go. Some of the suggestions I've already seen: new maps, tournaments with Rebel/Kagero and Oboro, Round Robin type tournament.
