Theme: Day of the Dead in Rune Midgard

 

Many cultures celebrate a day of the dead, with All Saints Day in Europe, Dia de Los Muertos in Mexico, Pitru Pashka in India and Obon in Japan. This year we are introducing Day of the Dead as this year's Halloween Loading screen theme. Whether this reflects your culture's traditions or your imagination of how the people and monsters in Rune Midgard would celebrate this occasion is up to you!

 

===RULES===

 

You can submit a loading screen until Midnight October 19th. The best of these will be uploaded as loading screens and we'll be showing them off during that week's Tiki Tuesday livestream. 

 

Art must be submitted by the artist, commissioned artwork cannot be accepted for this contest. 

 

Artwork must be created after the posting of this thread. Please do not submit older artwork.

Soooo it is not needed to meet the theme? Since so far majority of the submissions have nothing to do with any of the aspects of Day of the Dead

Seems like they fit with the theme using his last line & not everyone celebrates that holiday to know what it means fully. I had to google it to get reminded of what it was since I'm used to the trick or treat holiday.

This is my entry. ^^

 

Where I come from, Undas (Day of the Dead) means three things. One is a family reunion. Two is a visit to the cemetery. Three is spooks galore, from horror movies to entering haunted house-type attractions at local fairs (Perya) or amusement parks. So this is what I came up with. Maybe they also have Day of the Dead fairs in Rune Midgard, where they make mock haunted houses and charge admission. Or maybe, this is the one day of the year that the disturbed spirits in Geffen go out and let people in unmolested. At least, until the sun rises.

 

Geffen Dungeons. Scary and dank, with dangerous creatures and malicious spirits roaming its depths. But one day a year, the doors are flung open, and everyone can come in unmolested. For a price.

That is confusing, the second theme got copy pasted from the last thread's rules. My apologies. I'm being pretty loose with the Day of the Dead theme, but like in Iron Chef, artwork that more strongly reflects the theme gets weighted more heavily in judging.

Just to be crystal though, its Day of the Dead all over the world right? Like you mentioned in first post, its not just Dia de Muertos but how Day if the Dead is celebrated in our own cultures right? Because I based my entry on the various Perya that opens in my hometown in Cavite during Undas, which is the Philippine Day of the Dead. We dont have flowered skulls.

Correct, it does not have to be based on Dia de Los Muertos.
