Before I start, I'd just like to say that this won't work for all wings, e.g. the Seraph wings. It would look quite odd if this got added into the game.

Maybe we could try something to improve the idea of wings in the game? I mean, right now they current just kind of sit there on our backs, doing nothing really. But what if we added movement to the wings? For the most of them, well, basically all except for the ones like the Seraph wings, maybe we could add a flapping sort of motion, but not have it fast enough to make the player question why their character isn't flying.

Perhaps some of you guys could suggest a movement to add in to the Seraph wings, or any other wings that are pointing upwards.

Let me know your guy's thoughts on this~  :p_smile:

You have to add the ZMD [bones] to the wings ZMS [model], then build a ZMO [animation] for them.

Then you need to flag the item as having bones and reference the file. Then you need to reference the animation.

The flagging + references though are where the problem comes in. The current data storage structure for those items doesn't support those flags, AND the client doesn't request it either. So the client itself would probly need to be recoded, and then the steps above performed. It's obviously entirely possible, the issue is I highly doubt they'd put that much time into something that doesn't make money.

But, I could see them doing it if they had a bundle of new wings that they could sell in the IM that DO move.

This is a really cool idea and something that has been talked about maybe being implemented in the future. It still needs to be developed, but it is on the wishlist!

You mentioned that you thought the Seraph wings would look weird, but which wings in particular would you be most interested in seeing this kind of animation on if it were developed?

I agree with Feuer here, any wings that don't point in an odd direction would look amazing with some sort of animation.  :p_smile:

Orphe Wings, Eudy Wings and Pegasus Orphe Wings, they're mounts, not items and thus are stored + used by different systems.

I was surfing on the YouTube net a while ago and came across the following video. It is the Japanese ROSE online and shows a very interesting battle.. Anyhow, what I also noticed were the wings of the player in the video, you can see when he walks his wings widens out and when he stands still his wings turn back to their idle state. Maybe the idea you were thinking of is kinda the same like shown in the video?

Also, enjoy the music :thumb2:

interesting thing is that Faith is the item designers for jRose. And as I've had discussions about, having a contract with Faith will most likely never occur again due to how the contract was handled last time.

Ah how unfortunate, but it is what is :) Anyways, hopefully they will design some new wings and apply those techniques you've described in one of your previous comments. I find the video I posted just yet even more interesting because of the methods you described, I didn't expect the animation to be in the design itself, thought it was hard coded, well everyday we learn something new!

it's half hardcoded and half in the items settings. The hard coding comes into play because you need to client to request that item info.

It would be really nice if it was so. I'm snooping around in ROSEjp sometimes, and the aesthetics is really nice, which includes moving wings, but there's a lot of over-the-top stuff though.

I'd like to see this happen too; I'm a sucker for wings for some of my characters after all.

Japan has an entirely different culture than most the rest of the world. and jROSE is no exception really. They have artists constantly making up new things for their server, while here we have a bunch of legalities and royalties etc to deal with. In fact, I would probably send our server 1-2 items a weeks for the past 2-3 years if it wasn't for all the legal mumbo jumbo we have here. But it's not that way, and I can't just send them random cool things because I'd either have to sign legal papers and get them notarized, in order for them to sell them, or just do it for free which I don't have the time to do.

Not to mention our server only publishes things that serve a purpose. Example, I sent in a Staff costume/fun weapon almost 3 years ago now, and it hasn't been used because a: cant be sold in the IM without the above said legal stuff, and b: it doesn't match a 'set' or have a method to be distributed that serves some reward/drop purpose.

Yeah, I realized those things for a long time now, hence I'm not and should not make comparisons. A lot, if not most, of my hobbies and interest come from Japan's culture and the entertainment they present, (which ROSE's style may feel quite at home in Japan) and of course, I've come to the point that I know this and that. It's not a kick towards our beloved ROSE though, as I am quite aware of the situation.

Same thing here as well. I would like to send them a bunch of stuff that I've though out in my mind; I do know some extent of modeling on Metasequoia and Blender, and have worked with several random stuff, but I couldn't still think of stuff that would fit in with the game (as I'm not yet as acquainted with the lore as much as the veterans), not to mention stuff that are already offered in the past, as seen from rummaging the past threads. I'm pretty sure there are a lot that are the same in here, but they probably aren't interested enough to try and pitch in new stuff, especially with the fact you mentioned above.

If anything, the current situation gives me a strong pat in the back; I would like to promote our server more. Such action resulted me being absent in my other hobbies for several weeks now, recurring at random times. The experience there didn't shun me away from our server here; it's more like I would like things to go better here, like a competitive drive, but as the situation is, it's not all that easy. Before I started ROSE, I did look at the available official ones since I don't want to play private servers, and of course, I stumbled upon jROSE as well. Upon knowing what they offer, and the situation they're in, I sometimes get a massive emotional feeling seeing that our server has been kept alive after all these time, and is getting better (for me anyway; others might have a different opinion) and I would like for it to stay much longer.

Just to clarify stuff as well, it's not a negative bash towards our staff that keeps the game alive; it's more like an admiration that they're still here and kicking.

A final note though: thanks Feuer for all of these things. You're one of the indispensable people in the community right now with all the stuff you present, both in aesthetics and gameplay. I always sound like I'm kissing someone's ass, but you can't blame me for being grateful to a lot of people.
