I was always interested in the premise of miniature war/strategy games, but my time, space, and money has always been tied up in other games. A coworker of mine is really into Warhammer, so I was going to try casting some pieces in brass when I finish building my foundry furnace. I was thinking you could achieve some unusual effects by using a chemical tincture or stain to allow varying degrees of the brass to show through the surface.

I like wargaming but the Gamesworkshop stuff gets silly expensive. I used to do a lot of 40k stuff but have been doing games from smaller companies now.

Price was always an issue for me; I can't imagine it got better in the past ten years. I heard they moved away from pewter and started using polyresin without the lower material cost being reflected in the retail price. That's the whole presmise behind duplicating a mold and casting as many as I like.

They didn't really cheapen the figures. They stopped with pewter for most things and previously pewter models are now cast in resin with the associated bubbles and flash problems. The staple figures for most armies are cast in plastic.
Resin is kind of terrible for californians as our cars interiors can get hot enough to melt figures.

Got into Fantasy Flight's Descent-like Imperial Assault. Since the minifigures come unpainted, tt's been fun learning how to put some color on these iconic SW characters.
No where near Camp's painting skill though.

Tuskens at different stages of being painted
Apologies for the blur. All figures are now painted, just adding some final detail work before they're ready to get introduced into the game!

I started my annual browsing at Minature Market. The sales they run around this time of year usually meet or beat prices at the Board Game Geek market.
