Anyway, I should really check back on these forums more often.

You haven't really missed much. Just more of the same here.

Oh, I did! I just can't get enough of RO art, so your gallery swiftly earned itself a spot on my watch list.

You haven't really missed much. Just more of the same here.

If it's just "more of the same", I've missed a whole lot of goodness.

Studio scribbly.

Chaos' pauldrons are so hard to figure out. (Darn you Lee Myung-jin!) Still trying to get the hang of using MangaStudio so the linework is blech. So far I'm liking the ability to rotate the canvas around so I can do curves better. Perspectives are not my strong suite. ><

I have a good idea of how it wraps around his shoulders, it's the perspective I have trouble with.

Oh, no wonder! Lee Myung-jin drew the pauldrons differently!

Decided to base the pauldrons on the cover of Volume 1 (I wanna slap Lee for his inconsistency).

Looks better than before, still trying to figure out the front part with that runestone on his right pauldron. (Ignore his floating hair in the back, I'll do reattachment surgery later.)

Technically you can do any other type of payment. Per Oda you just have to put "Contact me for other payment options". You cant really advertise it openly in the forums but in private messages you can take any type of payment you want at your own risk.

hey artists. i have a question for ya'll. i'm feeling blue atm right now due to my career vs. my fam/relatives-- i'm pretty sure some of you experienced this... but i'll let my questions do all the talking.

1. When you took graphic design/ illustration/ or any form of art as a hobby/ career, did people around you (fam, friends, acquaintances) support you?

2. Where there people who think of it as a lowly work or disapproved of the idea? What did you do to counter this? Aside from ignoring them?

3. What if they're threatening you already? Like take away something related to it? (e.g. hide your tablet, mess up the wifi, etc.) What did you do or what will you do?

4. Tips for people currently facing these situation?

much thanks. ^^

4. Tips for people currently facing these situation?

1. Typically, yes.

2. Sure. If you care enough that the negativity bothers you, turn it around as an incentive to succeed and strengthen your resolve. You're doing it for yourself, not other people, especially not for the people giving you grief for pursuing something that you find fulfilling and gives you purpose.

3. My living situation is different I'm sure, so my options are probably a bit different. If you're getting legitimate threats of theft, vandalism, or destruction of property, at the very least document them as they come up (audio and/or video), so you have something to present in court if the need arises.

4. I'd be reluctant to give advice beyond what I covered about without a better idea of the specifics of a given scenario. It is my opinion that blood and history should be given minimal consideration when choosing whom you associate with. If you haven't by this point in your life, consider thoughtful introspection and active development of a strong personal philosophy, and be watchful for successful individuals with similar outlooks. In the end, we all take that last unknown step on our own, but on the journey to that point, a small circle of close friends is wonderful for mutual support and comfort. The minimum we should do as individuals is respect each others life choices, provided they are not grossly unethical. Best to not waste your fleeting time on people not willing to reciprocate that sentiment.

Friends supported me wholeheartedly. Family, not so much.

2. Where there people who think of it as a lowly work or disapproved of the idea? What did you do to counter this? Aside from ignoring them?

People think of it as lowly work only because they're jealous of the fact that if you make it in the industry, you're getting paid doing what you actually enjoy doing.

3. What if they're threatening you already? Like take away something related to it? (e.g. hide your tablet, mess up the wifi, etc.) What did you do or what will you do?

I had a friend whose mom ripped up all her artwork and called her lowly and not good enough. Luckily her older sister snuck them out of the trash for her and helped her piece them back together, but it was still a terrible situation. If they're at a point that they're hiding your art tools to prevent you from pursuing a career in the arts, the jealously levels must be REALLY high.

I do agree with Richie, document everything in case of court case disputes.

4. Tips for people currently facing these situation?

Only viable recommendation is simply to move out get away from those people since they're actively hindering your hobby, which are one of the few things people can enjoy in this life. If not, time to resort back to traditional pencil and pen and do art in secret until you are able to move out.

1. At this point, nobody cares as long as I have money flowing (well, I also do other stuff, but nobody deny I got some money from doing commission). My family used to be fairly indifferent back then.

2. "Better than stealing or doing other illegal jobs, at least."

3. I honestly never experienced these so I can't give any advice.

4. Echoing Zero, move out. That, or try to prove that you can make your hobby as career, like do some commission and show them you can get money, doesn't have to be a lot of money.

Tools of Trade (digital and traditional materials): Intuos Pen & Touch Small, almost exclusively.

Favorite subject to draw in Ragnarok: The cute monsters and player characters! I like drawing the female characters particularly, they've got much nicer costume designs.

Preferred artstyle: My own personal style is a weird mix of western and anime, so that. I've been branching into realism and chibi.

much thanks. ^^

1. It's not easy, and I was told this over and over again while honing my skills. I had a lot of opposition, people who told me to just lay down the pencil and focus on math or something, but I never listened. A huge part of art is pure determination. It takes a special kind of person to sit down for hours every day and practice something tortuously.

2. I ask them to take a look around them. What kind of world would we live in without art? Every advertisment on TV, every logo, every photograph, the paintings at the dentist office and the beautiful architecture - all of that started with artists. We can't demand art from artists while devaluing the artists themselves.

3. I'm lucky enough to be 23 now and I can make my own decisions and I pay for my own wifi and supplies, but when I was younger this happened a lot. My honest advice is to wait, or keep doubles of everything if you can in a secret place that only you know. Keeping your tablet on you at all times would work.

4. Stay strong and persevere. Just keep practicing, and don't forget to do your stretches and hand exercises so you don't get carpal tunnel.

1. I've always drawn, since before I was 8 or 9. My family in general is very creative, so my mother was supportive of my art. I've been doing freelance work since about 2007ish and my mom has always been very supportive, and whilst my dad said that it's good and he's proud of my art, he was also very, VERY grounded in reality to the point of bursting my bubble because I'd need to get a proper, more stable job. I'm lucky now that I have a main job and art is my 'supporting finance'. I love to draw regardless, though. :)

2. No one thinks it's low or disapproves of it. In the case of my dad, he just wanted me to make sure that I could consistently support myself financially, that I wouldn't get into trouble because of having no funds, so he was pushing for me to have a 'real' job as well. I didn't ignore him, but I didn't let him stop me from drawing, either. Drawing is one of my favourite things to do.

3. No one ever, EVER threatened to take away my ability to be creative. No one. Nor would anyone in my family do so. They know that it's important to me and it's very important to let creativity flourish. If that's who you are, that's who you are. End of story.

4. Basically all I said above. It'll be easier if you have some kind of consistent income that pays the bills. If your art isn't enough to pay the bills, then getting another job that DOES will help others be a bit more accepting of your arting ways.

:)
